임소진(Jin) I was curious about the 3D printer as we talked about it in class. So I read some articles and watched some videos and I want to talk about it. Some say the 3D printer is an infinite possibility of Pandora’s Box. Also it is called the third industrial revolution, the era that everyone can produce and everyone gets the producing technology. 3D printing technology have developed almost 30 years. A term of license was over so now it is possible to produce lower cost 3D printer. Earlier, 3D printing was used in only an aerospace and a car racing field. But now, it is used in other fields including medical industry, making figures, and manufacturing industry. This technology will change our life enormously. However, I think it is a double edged sword as many other technologies. Korea’s assembling capacity has competitiveness in the world, but as 3D printing technology develop, we can design, assemble, and produce at the same place so Korea can lose its competitiveness. Also many mass production manufacture industries may shut down and many assembling workers may have no place for work. I have no idea and knowledge in these kinds of technologies but, I think we have to improve our software to survive in an era of enormously developing technology.

I agree with 3D printer is a double edged sword ,but I can more see about advantages than disadvantages. for disadvantages we will face about abuses of 3D printer. for advantages we can utilizes in medical, engineering etc. area. I also very impressed by 3D print technology. Especially, I think cosmetics 3D printer is really needed for me. I think price of 'Cosmetics 3D printer' is also reasonable :). But I also think there's many side effect. When everyone could print everything with 3D printer - like gun or organ, it can be dangerous. Because, someone must be abuse the technology.
If the 3D printer's technology improves, we may create some human beings or some other species. I think that this is some creepy technology. The more we improve the technology, the more possibility arises. I agree with your opinion that someone must abuse the technology. People should limit the purpose of 3D printer's usage and if someone breaks the limitation, he or she must be punished. This can regulate people's abuse.
I also agree that 3D printer will bring many drawbacks. With a 3D printer, you could easily make weapons like guns. Also counterfeit items will become more common and it would be nearly impossible to maintain copyright of the product. And finally many manufacturing company will be bankrupt.
임소진(Jin) I agree with 권오현(Mr.Kwon) that the 3D printer will bring more advantages than disadvantages. I was talking that we have to prepare the effects of disadvanges, then it will be better! I think as 3D printer is now already used in many industries, so we have to make legislations to avoid negative effects and other social structures.
I think all the new technology has advantages and disadvantages. This depends on how well people use the technology. I think 3D print will bring so many advantages to us, and I am also expecting that. We have to take care of protecting the new technology from abusing.
Topic : Pros and cons by developing bio-sensor chip.
In the distant future, bio-sensor chip will be commercialization. Do you think this device will be helpful? or unhelpful? I think it's just have double-sidedness. What is your importance between privacy and health&technology? Nowadays, many people have think about privacy, if we use developed-technology such as Smartphone,Internet,we know that we can be under observation by nation but we keep use it because it's convenient&helpful. Bio-sensor chip will also be commercial so it can be use for nation and for each person. I think people just mention and worry about privacy but think more importance about technology that can be helpful to our life. The bio-sensor chip will come soon and has double-sideness but it will show pros more than cons.
I think that the bio-sensor chip will show many pros. This will be helpful to checking my own health. But I'm scared about someone hacking my information. Even now, disclosure of personal information is severe problem. I think all technologies are double edged sword.
I also agree that it will invade privacy. Especially it will be an obstacle for a criminal who want to start new life. Because crime records will be written in the chip permanently
How about this? If your heartbeat becomes slow or stop, the administrator of bio-sensor can recognize your bio-sensor. They can only check your health. At first, it was invented medically on purpose. So it has a commercial point and health care point. But people may not follow the policy about bio-sensor and break the law.
임소진(Jin) I will also feeling uncomfortable with that, but sure there will be many cons. I think we have the right of choice. Only who wants that device can use it. I think every new technologies have both good and bad effects. It's hard for us to choose what's right.
CNT is a material that has the strongest strength of the material found to date. ANd it's strength is at least 200 times that of iron. And as technology advances, CMT's strength can be strong. The strength of the carbon nanotubes is very high and also because of the high possibility that the development, and addressed to a candidate as a material of space elevator cable. Also, we can upgrade them to [graphene].Graphene can be made infinite future applications of technology because of it's high conductivity &100 times stronger than steel.
It is interesting article. I think if CNT is cheaper than Artificial diamond, it can be used for whole world. I don't know how strong is it but if we develop technology that stronger its strength, we use CNT more various than now.
TOPIC : SPACE TOURISM I thought that space tourism for ordinary people is just a dream. However, As we talked in class, Already, there's company- 'Virgin Galactic'- that plan to commercialize space travel and I was very surprised about this. They plan to ferry people 68 miles above the Earth, beyond the reach of gravity by 2015. In spite of high cost(for $250,000), About 700 people include many celebrities - like Angelina Jolie, Stephen Hawking- already signed up for it. But, the works still undergoing many trial and error. There was accident that Virgin Galactic’s spaceship disintegrated on Oct. 31, killing one pilot and injuring another. In this situation, I think 'Space tourism' will must be possible in the future but not in my generation. Only hundred years ago, people thought it's impossible to traveling all over the world by plane. But it's ordinary in these days. Maybe our grandchildren will travel into space for their vacation. But still now, technologies are in its infancy and it costs a tremendous amount to developing. So, I think it takes long times(maybe at least more than 100 years) to commercialized space trip. But if it possible in my lifetimes and the price is also reasonable, I want to go space. Some people may not want to travel the space, because there's always risk of accident and people can't predict how their body will react in different environment conditions. But, travelling into space will be an exciting adventure. It will provide unusual experience and knowledge, which we cannot get from any book or film. So, I think space is worth a visit once in lifetime even if it's risky. How about your opinion about 'Space tourism'? Do you believe it become a reality? Nowadays, many companies are planning to commercialize space travel. And I think space travel could be possible in our generation. There is space diving project called 'stratos' and Redbull suceeeded to commercialize it. Like this project, I believe that space travel is in the near future. Lastly, I wish I could go to other galaxy like in the movie 'interstellar'.
Recently, I watched 'Interstellar' In this movie, there is exhaustion of resource and a sandstorm which made people live painfully in earth. Like the movie this hypothesis(exhaustion of resource...etc.) will come I think. so we should think space travel not just travel but also finding alternatives for future. This will be for human's common assigment. and the sooner we catch this problem, the better it will.
임소진(Jin) I saw the movie 'Interstallar', too and I agree with Kwon's idea. I think human will not extinct in this earth, they will find other fitable planet to live. And if I have a chance to go out the space, I would be to afraid that I don't know anything about the space.
I also agree with realized space tourism. But I think it takes very very very long time to generalize the dream. There were many problems such as tourism cost, safety and so on.. If this problems are solved, so many people will have space tourism.

I saw the article also. But this drone delivery has a limitation of distance nowadays. I saw it can be used in a short distance for now. I agree with your opinion that usage of bombing. People become violent in anonymity. They can order a bomb which will be exploded in the destination and send it to someone who they hate and want to kill. Drones won't care about deliveries. They just deliver.
As you see a movie 'Matrix', you can see that the character 'Neo' was in some kind of artificial womb. Now this technology is not just in the movie. Some countries are developing artificial wombs and succeed in developing artificial wombs. As I saw the article in the newspaper and TV documentary about artificial womb, I felt that how people can be weird. Think about the baby who was born in the artificial womb, can you feel the affection? I think parents will act with a calm attitude. They just don't take care of the baby and if the baby die, they will say "Oh, we may get another baby." This phenomenon will occur all around the world. Human dignity will collapse. Artificial womb may have a good point for someone who can get a baby in natural. I think this is a good point, but I am worried about an abuse of artificial womb. In conclusion, Government or hospitals should have the guidelines of the artificial womb. Our human dignity should be protected by the abuse.
I agree that artificial womb can be abused But it also has many benefits. It helps couples who can't have a baby. It could be infertile parents or gay couples. Imagine how desperate infertile parents will be. Baby could be a great happiness for them. One potential problem is ending up reliant on the technology. If use of artificial wombs becomes the norm then a few hundred years down the line, most people may be incapable of giving birth naturally.
It is interesting article. I never heard about artificial womb. I agree with Lewis's thought and also juho's. There is pros and cons for everything. However I think if artificial womb is commercialized, it will be abused by bad people. For example they will import or export artificial wombs form other countries or they raise a baby for organ trafficking or sweatshop.
I heard that artificial insemination or test-tube baby is very hard thing not only mentally but also physically for the infertile couple. So I think it can be a good news for the couple who can’t get a baby. However, as you worrying, the baby can be made for the bad purpose. Such as organ selling thing. And I agree that this technique could cheapening human life. Making a baby is very sacred and important thing. However, in the future, if the artificial womb goes to easy thing, people might think making baby is also easy thing. Woman have a baby for 10 months in her body. During 10 month, mom and baby feel and love each other and looking forward to seeing each other. However, the baby from the artificial womb, doesn’t have much powerful bond with the mom, I think. This is a very sad and serious problem.
I heard that autonomous car(self driving car)will be developed, soon. Now self driving subway is being operated in Seoul. The self driving car can get the information of the road environment through satellite radar. So the car can perceive surrounding objects and he can know his location information. Also the owner can control the car's destination and brake and so on. Because I don;t have drive licence, that technology is so interesting for me. But It may be asked whether it is safe and useful. I have a question about that if it will be developed, many vehicular accidents can be decreased. Also if it will be developed, the car is affordable price for many people.
임소진(Jin) I also heard about that! I think sehicular accidents may decreased but car price might not change. I think I heard of the automatic parking technology, that is helping many people who have difficulty with parking, so this technology will helpful too. But, I think even we buy the self driving car we have to get a car licence and provided only to who has the licence.
I've also heard about this car. Even I have a drive license I was really happy when I heard about self driving car because i am still not good at driving. Many people say that the most dangerous thing on the road is the worst driver. But I am also worried that if this car could catch every variable on the road because there are so many unexpectable variables. If it can't, it will be as dangerous as the worst driver.
It sounds interesting. Because I don't have drive licence and don't know how to drive, it must be good news for the people like me. But, when system are damaged suddenly or hacked, it will be very dangerous. System should be checked a lot of times before it became commercialized for our safety.
When I was young, I dreamed a car that drives automatically. It was unrealizable thing. But 20 years after, it can be realized. In my opinion, Self-driving is definitely convenient system. However, the most important thing is a completeness of that system. Because driving is directly connected one’s life, that system must be perfect and errorless.
In the car, there’s a function that similar to automatic driving named Cruise Control. By the cruise control you can drive a car without stepping on the excel pedal. You just set the running speed, and the car goes itself as set speed. It is very useful for highway driving. It lessens driver’s stress and fatigues. Past cruise control didn’t have a slowing down function, but the recent cruise control can control the speed by checking the space of the car ahead. I think this technology can be a good base technique for the automatic car.
We have been using petroleum as fuel since 19th centuries. Discovery of petroleum was a revolutionary events globally. After Industrial Revolution, lots of countries have to use so many petroleum to develop their national economy. Petroleum was became very important factor in our life. For example, there was a several wars because of petroleum in middle-east.
Have you ever think about that petroleum was run out? If there are no petroleum anymore, the whole world became panic and there will be chaos of energy. The oil deposits of whole world is 1.5 trillion barrels. We can use this amount of oil only 37.5 years. Therefore. We have to find other alternative energy. Many countries focus on ‘Shale gas’
What is shale gas then? Shale gas is kind of natural gas came from shale layer. Mud deposited for long time then it became shale layer. Why is shale important? There are 187.5 trillion cubic meter of shale gas was deposited in whole world. We can use this amount of shale gas for 60 years.
But there is important thing to get shale gas. It is skill of drilling. Shale gas reserved under the deep ground. We can’t drilling the shale gas by way of these days skill. However, if we find the way of drilling shale gas efficiently, we will earn plenty of money. Also I think we have to develop out technology appropriately to using of shale gas. If we improve our drilling skill, we will be powerful nation about energy.

I have heard about also about electronic fuel for alternative energy. But, there is problem with alternative energy that shale gas and electronic fuel ...etc. This energy can't deal with by these days skill. So I also agree with Don's word that we should keep try to improve our skill for dealing with these alternative energy and then, it will be competitive skill.
Well, shale gas is one of the important alternative energy. But, USA is predominant than any other countries in producing shale gas. Topic : IoT (Internet of Things) IoT(Internet of Things) means that things communicate each other. Things are linked and communicated through internet, and they response intelligently. Do you know ‘Nike +’ or ‘Nike fuel band’? ‘Nike +’ and ‘Nike fuel band' is an example of IoT. ‘Nike + Kit’ is an activity tracker device which measures and records the distance and pace of a walk or run. The Nike+ Fuel Band is an activity tracker worn on the wrist. It allows its wearers to track their physical activity and amount of energy burned. The information from them is integrated into phone application, allowing wearers to set their own fitness goals and monitor their progression. It means that your shoes and sport band communicate with your smartphone or tablet PC.
Maybe, in future life, when we are at the market, if we send a message to a refrigerator that is in home, “How many bottles of beer do we have?” Then, the refrigerator will be reply, “3. But you will need more.” Isn’t it great? All things will not be ‘just things’ with IoT. Things can behave like a human. I think that everything will be an important part of our life, just as smartphones.
I agree with you. I am also excited to experience this technology in the near future with cheaper price and better qualities. Actually as you mentioned many products have been developed with new technology but still there are many problems of thses products. For example when I check my exercising routine with gps system in my phone, it is sometimes not accurate and it spend many batteries when i use them. Also most of newer products having voice service are expensive. I hope the technology develop more and the price become more affordable.
I can't imagine that technology. The things act as if they are human. But I know the technology such as ‘Nike +’. Smartphone has that similar application. My father also has the application and he track number of his walking. I expect the technology 'IoT'.

I saw on the news that Amazon deliveries could come by air directly to our doorstep and they said that drones are ready to take flight as soon as federal rules change. Imagine how convenient and fast it would be. However I think there will be more side effects when we use drone. These future delivery could be used by terrorists. Terrorist could hack into the drone and could be used for bombing. It is like opening Pandora's box and It would satisfy their desire for greater ease. Terrorists don't have the resources to fulfill desire to increase functional range, but a company like Amazon certainly does. No terrorist is going to use a drone to blow up a building 10 miles away. But they could do it from another city.
This delievery system also have Pros & Cons. for Pros it can be really convenient and there is no holiday for delievery but if it have computer problem or like terrorists who hack and abuse this system? and too much automatic system take works from human this will make huge problem to everyone. So I think this delievery system should be done by human's hand for safety and... etc. and also I'm now satify with delievery system that is convenient, fast, safe and have 'jung' with delievery man.
I see what you think about drone delivery system. I think technology of this will be higher than now when it really comes to our reality. But I think they who invent and research this technology would not overlook these side effects that you mentioned. By the time there will be also higher quality of technology to prevent those bad crimes which might come from the drone delivery system. For example there will be highly secured system that we should pass when we receive the package from Amazon.
If terrorists got drone, it must be abused for bad purpose. Drones can be commercialized through whole world but Detector like radar can't be commercialized like drones. So we can't detect bombs or dangerous thing easily. If there are ways to detect bombs or dangerous thing easily, this delivery service will make our life more comfortable.
Before I read your article, I’ve just thought that the Amazon’s new delivery system is very sensational and innovative. However, after read this article, think changed. I came up with the scene from the movie, interstellar. In the movie, there’s one scene that shows drone manipulating. The drone was from one nation, though, it hacked really easily only by computer tracking. That drone was for military use. So it might be designed hard-hacking. But it hacked easily. Then, the Amazon’s drone could be hacked much easier. So I think it is very important to making safe firewalls to protect from serious hacking.
In these century, many of people are not only dreaming but experiencing Robot technology. Simple actions such as cleaning or speaking is piece of cake nowadays. And many new studies have been working on.
Especially in Japan, many robots ,having variety abilities, have been launched in world market. The One I searched, 'Momoco', has emotion just like human. They can also communicate with people and between them. They are trying to solve audience's problem. Also there is a robot named 'Pepper' which was made for psychotherapy. Like these robots, they are helping us and will be helpful more and more. Also people will rely on them more and more. However some researchers are concerned these situation. They say this is 'artificial empathy' which means we cannot actually communicate with robots. Also they say that people are tend to rely on robots too much. They believe robots cannot fulfill people's needs which is related to minds or feelings. They call it 'unidirectional bonds'.
No offense but I think their opinion is already including that robots will have a role as a friend or family member who we can be comforted. When we think of living with pets, we can definitely say that pets are the existence that we can rely on and get positive powers. Although robots are not a live existence but if technology of it grow up as much as we expect now, they will be a thankful existence for someone in need. So I think we don't need to worry about this problems that researchers bring up so much.

Nowadays, as you say many robots are being developed. They are used in many place such as factory hospital in japan and so on. However, after developing robots, many people replace human's job to robot. I think that this is the one reason of world unemployment. Everyone cannot be happy. I feel that this is so sad.
I already heard about nowadays robot technology. I think we don't need a robot like human. However, I think it is necessary that making like human body part like arm or leg. For example people who lost there arm or leg at the war, they really want to have their arm or leg. The more develop of technology like making robot, the more demands will increase.
Robot is one of the promising technologies. Previous robots were able to act just simple things. But, as you mentioned, nowadays robots can carry out more complicated things. Moreover, It is amazing that robot can feel specific feelings as if they're humans. Many people raise a pet because they are lonely. In future, people can raise their own robot. Pets cannot say human language. But Robots can. In this respect, robots can be a good substitute. Robots can be someone's pet, family or a lover.
Even though they can speak, feel and sympathize, they are still nonliving. In my opinion, It is quite strange that humans fall in love with a robot.
The development of robot industry is very fast that they make many fantastic robots. As you talked, recently, robot can behave like human being. However I don’t think robot can’t be a human’s alternative one. If you saw movie “Interstellar”, you know that there was a robot named TARS. TARS is very capable robot. If the problem arises, TARS gives many choices to choose. However, TARS cannot make any decisions. Like this, robots only give us a number of solutions. Evaluation and choosing is the only ability for human being. So I think robot is no more than machine. Even if they can consult us or be a friend for us.
After we discuss about the globalizations, I have thought about the dark side of those. Before you read this post, check your clothes, shoes’ label. Where are they made from? Indonesia? South East Asia? Whether the making country is same or not, the common point of those country is cheap labor costs.
One company makes a part or subsystem that is used in another company's end product. This is called OEM product. This is very common production method of many globalized company. Generally, developed country gives work to developing or underdeveloped countries. So somebody might think it’s creation of employment for underdeveloped countries. However, we look it closer, there are a lot of absurdity.
The developed country’s working system for the underdeveloped country is almost sweatshop. The workers of OEM factory are treated like a slave. They always do the overwork, get extremely low wages. Moreover, the real problem is the factory uses children for working. Child makes a doll for another child. What an ironic situation. Working children cannot go to school. They work for hours to make product as many as possible. We can find other similar cases in African coffee farm’s children, African chocolate (kakao) farm’s children.
Fair Trade is a solution for these problems. Fair trade is an organized social movement whose stated goal to help producers in developing countries achieve better trading conditions and to promote sustainability. Consequently, if we care about workers’ efforts and rights, we must buy fair trade products. Even if it is more expensive than not fair trade one.
I've heard about this issue a lot and still I can't say what part is right or wrong. But the problem is if we ask better working environment to the developed country, would they say yes? Rather then say yes to change for the poor children, they would find cheaper country to work fot them with small money. It is not fot sure but most of big company especially need many simple working force might not want to spend more money on it. When they find another country, it's just become taking away their only job to survive. It is sad to wear brands' clothes from poor children's precious time but it is still a sensitive problem because it is directly connected to poor children's only way of earning money for their family.
I agree with your opinion about the fair trade. I heard about that issue and realized the seriousness of the sweatshop. Especially, I feel sorry for the children who is exploited by employers. I also watch the TV program about Africa workers. They worked so hard in cacao farm but they have never eaten the chocolate. I think the bad condition for workers has to be improved for them.
It is inconvenient issue, definitely. But, OEM system is reasonable system in industrial society. if developed countries or global companies founded their factory in their country, that will cost a tremendous amount. Advanced countries can save their costs and underdeveloped countries earn the money through the OEM system. Korea had been a main producing country which produced wig , shoes, clothes, like as nowadays Indonesia. But Now, Korea founded our factory in Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam. We had gone through amazing development history. OEM system is not bad thing, but each country’s attitude is important. Advanced countries should respect and thank to producing countries and they should not treat them as a slave. And producing county must make an effort to their development and to make well-educated people. Then, Worlds will be fair.
I agree with your opinion. Since I saw a exploitation of children from TV, I've got a huge interest about 'Fair trade' I try to buy the products that have 'Fair trade marks'. What is your importance between privacy and health&technology? Nowadays, many people have think about privacy, if we use developed-technology such as Smartphone,Internet,we know that we can be under observation by nation but we keep use it because it's convenient&helpful. Bio-sensor chip will also be commercial so it can be use for nation and for each person. I think people just mention and worry about privacy but think more importance about technology that can be helpful to our life.
The bio-sensor chip will come soon and has double-sideness but it will show pros more than cons.
I think that the bio-sensor chip will show many pros. This will be helpful to checking my own health. But I'm scared about someone hacking my information. Even now, disclosure of personal information is severe problem. I think all technologies are double edged sword.

DeleteHow about this? If your heartbeat becomes slow or stop, the administrator of bio-sensor can recognize your bio-sensor. They can only check your health. At first, it was invented medically on purpose. So it has a commercial point and health care point. But people may not follow the policy about bio-sensor and break the law.

And as technology advances, CMT's strength can be strong.
The strength of the carbon nanotubes is very high and also because of the high possibility that the development, and addressed to a candidate as a material of space elevator cable. Also, we can upgrade them to [graphene].Graphene can be made infinite future applications of technology because of it's high conductivity &100 times stronger than steel.
It is interesting article. I think if CNT is cheaper than Artificial diamond, it can be used for whole world. I don't know how strong is it but if we develop technology that stronger its strength, we use CNT more various than now.

ReplyDeleteI thought that space tourism for ordinary people is just a dream. However, As we talked in class, Already, there's company- 'Virgin Galactic'- that plan to commercialize space travel and I was very surprised about this. They plan to ferry people 68 miles above the Earth, beyond the reach of gravity by 2015. In spite of high cost(for $250,000), About 700 people include many celebrities - like Angelina Jolie, Stephen Hawking- already signed up for it. But, the works still undergoing many trial and error. There was accident that Virgin Galactic’s spaceship disintegrated on Oct. 31, killing one pilot and injuring another.
In this situation, I think 'Space tourism' will must be possible in the future but not in my generation. Only hundred years ago, people thought it's impossible to traveling all over the world by plane. But it's ordinary in these days. Maybe our grandchildren will travel into space for their vacation. But still now, technologies are in its infancy and it costs a tremendous amount to developing. So, I think it takes long times(maybe at least more than 100 years) to commercialized space trip. But if it possible in my lifetimes and the price is also reasonable, I want to go space. Some people may not want to travel the space, because there's always risk of accident and people can't predict how their body will react in different environment conditions. But, travelling into space will be an exciting adventure. It will provide unusual experience and knowledge, which we cannot get from any book or film. So, I think space is worth a visit once in lifetime even if it's risky.
How about your opinion about 'Space tourism'? Do you believe it become a reality? Then when it will be generalized or popularized? And Do you want to travel space if you can afford?

Nowadays, many companies are planning to commercialize space travel. And I think space travel could be possible in our generation. There is space diving project called 'stratos' and Redbull suceeeded to commercialize it. Like this project, I believe that space travel is in the near future. Lastly, I wish I could go to other galaxy like in the movie 'interstellar'.

Like the movie this hypothesis(exhaustion of resource...etc.) will come I think. so we should think space travel not just travel but also finding alternatives for future. DeleteI saw the movie 'Interstallar', too and I agree with Kwon's idea. I think human will not extinct in this earth, they will find other fitable planet to live. And if I have a chance to go out the space, I would be to afraid that I don't know anything about the space.

DeleteI saw the article also. But this drone delivery has a limitation of distance nowadays. I saw it can be used in a short distance for now. I agree with your opinion that usage of bombing. People become violent in anonymity. They can order a bomb which will be exploded in the destination and send it to someone who they hate and want to kill. Drones won't care about deliveries. They just deliver.

ReplyDeleteAs you see a movie 'Matrix', you can see that the character 'Neo' was in some kind of artificial womb. Now this technology is not just in the movie. Some countries are developing artificial wombs and succeed in developing artificial wombs. As I saw the article in the newspaper and TV documentary about artificial womb, I felt that how people can be weird. Think about the baby who was born in the artificial womb, can you feel the affection? I think parents will act with a calm attitude. They just don't take care of the baby and if the baby die, they will say "Oh, we may get another baby." This phenomenon will occur all around the world. Human dignity will collapse. Artificial womb may have a good point for someone who can get a baby in natural. I think this is a good point, but I am worried about an abuse of artificial womb. In conclusion, Government or hospitals should have the guidelines of the artificial womb. Our human dignity should be protected by the abuse.
I agree that artificial womb can be abused But it also has many benefits. It helps couples who can't have a baby. It could be infertile parents or gay couples. Imagine how desperate infertile parents will be. Baby could be a great happiness for them.

It is interesting article. I never heard about artificial womb. I agree with Lewis's thought and also juho's. There is pros and cons for everything. However I think if artificial womb is commercialized, it will be abused by bad people. For example they will import or export artificial wombs form other countries or they raise a baby for organ trafficking or sweatshop.

ReplyDeleteI heard that autonomous car(self driving car)will be developed, soon.
Now self driving subway is being operated in Seoul. The self driving car can get the information of the road environment through satellite radar.
So the car can perceive surrounding objects and he can know his location information.
Also the owner can control the car's destination and brake and so on. Because I don;t have drive licence, that technology is so interesting for me.
But It may be asked whether it is safe and useful. I have a question about that if it will be developed, many vehicular accidents can be decreased.
Also if it will be developed, the car is affordable price for many people.

I think I heard of the automatic parking technology, that is helping many people who have difficulty with parking, so this technology will helpful too. But, I think even we buy the self driving car we have to get a car licence and provided only to who has the licence.
I've also heard about this car. Even I have a drive license I was really happy when I heard about self driving car because i am still not good at driving. Many people say that the most dangerous thing on the road is the worst driver. But I am also worried that if this car could catch every variable on the road because there are so many unexpectable variables. If it can't, it will be as dangerous as the worst driver.

You just set the running speed, and the car goes itself as set speed. It is very useful for highway driving. It lessens driver’s stress and fatigues.

We have been using petroleum as fuel since 19th centuries. Discovery of petroleum was a revolutionary events globally. After Industrial Revolution, lots of countries have to use so many petroleum to develop their national economy. Petroleum was became very important factor in our life. For example, there was a several wars because of petroleum in middle-east.
Have you ever think about that petroleum was run out? If there are no petroleum anymore, the whole world became panic and there will be chaos of energy. The oil deposits of whole world is 1.5 trillion barrels. We can use this amount of oil only 37.5 years. Therefore. We have to find other alternative energy. Many countries focus on ‘Shale gas’
What is shale gas then? Shale gas is kind of natural gas came from shale layer. Mud deposited for long time then it became shale layer.
Why is shale important? There are 187.5 trillion cubic meter of shale gas was deposited in whole world. We can use this amount of shale gas for 60 years.
But there is important thing to get shale gas. It is skill of drilling. Shale gas reserved under the deep ground. We can’t drilling the shale gas by way of these days skill. However, if we find the way of drilling shale gas efficiently, we will earn plenty of money. Also I think we have to develop out technology appropriately to using of shale gas. If we improve our drilling skill, we will be powerful nation about energy.

I have heard about also about electronic fuel for alternative energy. But, there is problem with alternative energy that shale gas and electronic fuel ...etc. This energy can't deal with by these days skill. So I also agree with Don's word that we should keep try to improve our skill for dealing with these alternative energy and then, it will be competitive skill.

The Nike+ Fuel Band is an activity tracker worn on the wrist. It allows its wearers to track their physical activity and amount of energy burned. The information from them is integrated into phone application, allowing wearers to set their own fitness goals and monitor their progression. It means that your shoes and sport band communicate with your smartphone or tablet PC.
Maybe, in future life, when we are at the market, if we send a message to a refrigerator that is in home, “How many bottles of beer do we have?” Then, the refrigerator will be reply, “3. But you will need more.” Isn’t it great? All things will not be ‘just things’ with IoT. Things can behave like a human. I think that everything will be an important part of our life, just as smartphones.

I agree with you. I am also excited to experience this technology in the near future with cheaper price and better qualities. Actually as you mentioned many products have been developed with new technology but still there are many problems of thses products. For example when I check my exercising routine with gps system in my phone, it is sometimes not accurate and it spend many batteries when i use them. Also most of newer products having voice service are expensive. I hope the technology develop more and the price become more affordable.

DeleteI saw on the news that Amazon deliveries could come by air directly to our doorstep and they said that drones are ready to take flight as soon as federal rules change. Imagine how convenient and fast it would be. However I think there will be more side effects when we use drone. These future delivery could be used by terrorists. Terrorist could hack into the drone and could be used for bombing. It is like opening Pandora's box and It would satisfy their desire for greater ease. Terrorists don't have the resources to fulfill desire to increase functional range, but a company like Amazon certainly does. No terrorist is going to use a drone to blow up a building 10 miles away. But they could do it from another city.

But I think they who invent and research this technology would not overlook these side effects that you mentioned. I came up with the scene from the movie, interstellar. In the movie, there’s one scene that shows drone manipulating. The drone was from one nation, though, it hacked really easily only by computer tracking. That drone was for military use. So it might be designed hard-hacking. But it hacked easily. Then, the Amazon’s drone could be hacked much easier. So I think it is very important to making safe firewalls to protect from serious hacking.

ReplyDeleteIn these century, many of people are not only dreaming but experiencing Robot technology. Simple actions such as cleaning or speaking is piece of cake nowadays. And many new studies have been working on.
Especially in Japan, many robots ,having variety abilities, have been launched in world market. The One I searched, 'Momoco', has emotion just like human. They can also communicate with people and between them. They are trying to solve audience's problem. Also there is a robot named 'Pepper' which was made for psychotherapy.
Like these robots, they are helping us and will be helpful more and more. Also people will rely on them more and more. However some researchers are concerned these situation. They say this is 'artificial empathy' which means we cannot actually communicate with robots. Also they say that people are tend to rely on robots too much. They believe robots cannot fulfill people's needs which is related to minds or feelings. They call it 'unidirectional bonds'.
No offense but I think their opinion is already including that robots will have a role as a friend or family member who we can be comforted. When we think of living with pets, we can definitely say that pets are the existence that we can rely on and get positive powers. Although robots are not a live existence but if technology of it grow up as much as we expect now, they will be a thankful existence for someone in need. So I think we don't need to worry about this problems that researchers bring up so much.

Nowadays, as you say many robots are being developed. They are used in many place such as factory hospital in japan and so on. However, after developing robots, many people replace human's job to robot. I think that this is the one reason of world unemployment. Everyone cannot be happy. I feel that this is so sad.

If the problem arises, TARS gives many choices to choose. However, TARS cannot make any decisions. Like this, robots only give us a number of solutions. ReplyDeleteAfter we discuss about the globalizations, I have thought about the dark side of those. Before you read this post, check your clothes, shoes’ label. Where are they made from? Indonesia? South East Asia? Whether the making country is same or not, the common point of those country is cheap labor costs.
ReplyDeleteOne company makes a part or subsystem that is used in another company's end product. This is called OEM product. This is very common production method of many globalized company. Generally, developed country gives work to developing or underdeveloped countries. So somebody might think it’s creation of employment for underdeveloped countries. However, we look it closer, there are a lot of absurdity.
The developed country’s working system for the underdeveloped country is almost sweatshop. The workers of OEM factory are treated like a slave. They always do the overwork, get extremely low wages. Moreover, the real problem is the factory uses children for working. Child makes a doll for another child. What an ironic situation.
Working children cannot go to school. They work for hours to make product as many as possible. We can find other similar cases in African coffee farm’s children, African chocolate (kakao) farm’s children.
Fair Trade is a solution for these problems. Fair trade is an organized social movement whose stated goal to help producers in developing countries achieve better trading conditions and to promote sustainability. Consequently, if we care about workers’ efforts and rights, we must buy fair trade products. Even if it is more expensive than not fair trade one.
I've heard about this issue a lot and still I can't say what part is right or wrong. But the problem is if we ask better working environment to the developed country, would they say yes? Rather then say yes to change for the poor children, they would find cheaper country to work fot them with small money. It is not fot sure but most of big company especially need many simple working force might not want to spend more money on it. When they find another country, it's just become taking away their only job to survive. It is sad to wear brands' clothes from poor children's precious time but it is still a sensitive problem because it is directly connected to poor children's only way of earning money for their family.

But, OEM system is reasonable system in industrial society. if developed countries or global companies founded their factory in their country, that will cost a tremendous amount. Advanced countries can save their costs and underdeveloped countries earn the money through the OEM system. Korea had been a main producing country which produced wig , shoes, clothes, like as nowadays Indonesia. But Now, Korea founded our factory in Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam. We had gone through amazing development history.
