***Make-up day for Monday class 7, 8--post your movie critique here***
Since the Monday class will be missing two days for University Foudation Day and Memorial Day, you will watch a movie of your choice and post your critique on here. Don't just comment on the whether you liked the movie or not but rather go deeper but not limited to these issues:
1. What message is the producer trying to convey?
2. Are there any life lessons the movie is trying to share?
3. What are some stereotypical parts played by people in the movie? Is the main character a male? A caucasian male? Is he tall, handsome, and young? Does he smoke?
4. Is the supporting role of the main character a male or female? Do you think there's anything odd about this?
5. Is the outcome of the movie predictable? Did Good trimuph over Evil? Did the movie end with a possible sequel in mind? Something for the watcher to hope for in the future? How do you know?
6. What is your overall feeling of the movie? Was it worth the money you paid for? Why or why not? Would you refer your friends to go watch this movie? Why or why not?
7. What would you like to have told the producer of the movie if you could? To possibly change the movie to make it better.
Thsese questions aren't all inclusive but are there just to give you some ideas on what kinds of things to write about. Hope you all have fun with this activity.
Don't forget to type your name in Korean (hangul) to receive your credit for this assignment.

ReplyDeleteI wanted to watched this movie years ago. Finally dream come true.
1. What message is the producer trying to convey?
Justice always win.
2. Are there any life lessons the movie is trying to share?
There are no eternal enemy nor friend.
3. What are some stereotypical parts played by people in the movie? Is the main character a male? A caucasian male? Is he tall, handsome, and young? Does he smoke?
Yes, two main characters are male. They are tall, handsome and strong. Well, in the movie I couldn't see they smoke so I conclude that they are not smoker.
4. Is the supporting role of the main character a male or female? Do you think there's anything odd about this?
Actually supporting role of main characters are male. But I don't feel oddness about portion of male heroes and female heroes. They have their own characters and ability.
5. Is the outcome of the movie predictable? Did Good trimuph over Evil? Did the movie end with a possible sequel in mind? Something for the watcher to hope for in the future? How do you know?
Yes it was predictable. Always Good side win.
6. What is your overall feeling of the movie? Was it worth the money you paid for? Why or why not? Would you refer your friends to go watch this movie? Why or why not?
It was worth the money. I think it was one of top 4 marvel movie that has been made of. There's lots of action scenes. And the part of other marvel heroes are well supporting the main character.
7. What would you like to have told the producer of the movie if you could? To possibly change the movie to make it better.
It was awesome movie. There's nothing to upgrade or change part. You have done your best job to make the story within 2 hours.
I can imagine some people are disappointed because of nothing new compared to trailer. But I can tell there can’t be more successful story or scenario within 160 minuite.
Hi I'm Ron(유호수 201232878)
ReplyDeleteI actually saw the movie 'Civil War Captain America' before the assignment was given and now I'm going to rate it. Well... before rating it I think whenever one of the Marvel movies comes out on the screen it becomes one of our biggest issues. It means that Marvel is really effecting the universe in a cultural way and that might be the reason why I saw it. I was influenced by Marvel. After seeing the movie I wanted to know about this guy named Bucky who was a friend of Captain America. I thought that I saw him before in a different movie and also as the same character. So I did some googling and I realized he was the 'Winter Soldier'. Almost every movie from Marvel has connections. So I watched that movie again to remind the story of it and I am planing on seeing the other Marvel movies that has the connection.
While seeing the movie I was impressed by the action scenes how it looked very real and I wondered how they got the shots of those awesome scenes. I know they obviously used computer graphic but still half of the movie has action scenes that are impossible to shoot in real and do you guys remember the scene where they fight in the airport? They did not shoot that part in the airport. They did it in a filming set. Did you know? I thought that was unique. To me it just looked like a real airport.
The story had a very good flow to understand why they had a fight, had awesome action scenes, the actors did perfect on their parts, Antman was hilarious, but, there was no Hulk and Thor. So in a range of 1 to 10 I would give an 8. Hulk and Thor was a big part of the ratio.
Hi, I'm James(이상욱 201231069).
ReplyDeleteI was very satisfied at this movie. There are two reasons. First is difference. Civil war is very novel. Actually. Most of Hollywood blockbusters are just fight(good and evil), crash many cities and so on. That is a stereotype. But Civil war broke these stereotypes. Heros always fight for the world. But, in this movie, Characters have their own fight reasons. For example, revenge, friend, family and victims. It makes more realistic. Actually, i'm a supporter of Tony. Tony's reasons are more righteous and public. Sometimes Captain shows selfish. Only for Bucky(Winter soldier), he trash many things. But frankly, Sometimes i'm feeling envy their friendship.
Second reason is its scale. Civil war is just one of Captain America series. But In there, There are so many heros. Cap, Ironman, spiderman, vision.... and it makes people who watch this movie more satisfied. Especially, I'm big fan of spiderman, so I was very pleased at scene of spiderman. It was awesome! And actors performance were great!
So I can say that Civil war is the best movie of Marvel. I want to recommend to my friend.

ReplyDeleteI think the movie, Captain America: civil war was quite impressive as there were some interesting points to think about.
First, as James said, heros and heroines were fighting against each other with their own purposes. Well, in my opinion, fighting for the world and fighting against villans are quite old-fashioned and boring. I agree with James that Heros always fight for the world in traditional movies.
Another interesting point is that Captain America is against registration of superheroes. Captain America is a soldier, and is obligated to follow government's opinion. But, in the movie, he refused to sign up on the list because of his friend Bucky. This thought might result from my sterotype that soldiers should follow the govenment, but generally and in almost every case, soldiers are under the government's control.
Overall, the movie was nice. But the ending was somewhat predictable. I was disappointed that a bad guy was not so strong, and I even felt pity for him because he doesn't have any special power. Anyways, the movie was well-made, and I will recommend this movie to my friends who haven't seen it yet.

A world-view of Marvel is very vast. they gave individual and ingenious peculiarity to each characters even there are a ton of characters in Marvel comics. Also, a story of their fiction is really well done and elaborate. Captain America : Civil War(2016) is one of the whole series of Marvel, it doesn't matter that we know nothing of previous stories though. The main plot of this movie is a division of Avengers' members. And it is drawing the process of how the members of Avengers are divided. I brought america civil war(1861~1865) to mind while watching the movie. The war and this movie have common traits as they are both an internal struggle. Just the same as several states of USA dropped out of line in the past, some of the members including Captain America withdrew from Avengers. In this regard, Iron man soon reproved his carelessness in a short time flat and changed his mind to be controlled by the govenment is what I don't understand because one of his features was that he has always been unhampered. Anyway the war has begun in so doing, a side of Captain America succeeded to get out of the clutches of their opposite side on the contrary to America Civil War(In ACW, an independent side was defeated.) And they got faced to their real enemy, Zemo. What happened in this movie is really obvious as other super-hero movies. They are signifying countries that were communist countries once like Russia, or that are maintaining conflicts with USA like Middle Asia in that they have different religions from USA(think about Israel-Palestine) as an ultimate evil but what has decisive problems are themselves. So I think these parts are what I thought through this movie.

ReplyDeleteI did not have the chance to watch “Civil War” so I am going to post about the movie I watched last week. It is called “Like Stars on Earth.” The producer of this movie is Aamir Khan, who is famous for the movie, “Three Idiots.” I watched this movie for my report in Introduction to Special Education. This movie gives people thorough understanding of students who have dyslexia. The main character in this movie is a boy named Ishaan, 3rd grade in Elementary School. In the beginning of the movie, this boy goes through many troubles in school. He never tries to concentrate nor do his homework. Eventually, his father changed Ishaan‘s school to a boarding school. However, he never seemed to make any improvements, until he meets Mr. Nikumbh. Nikumbh realizes that Ishaan cannot read or write because of brain problem. By then, he trains Ishaan individually by giving him many different materials to write with. Finally Ishaan overcame dyslexia and self-confidence.
I would recommend strongly to the people who are majoring in Education. This movie shows how interest and love are so important for the students to grow healthy. Education is not just about teaching text books, it is about giving them chances to dream and feel self esteem.

I saw the movie ‘Civil War Captain America' 3 weks ago, I was really fascinated by the fantastic action scene of the movie
I think that the producer want to tell us that seemingly uncontrolled power has to under the government, but I feel it showed the conflict of private reason and public purpose of heros even though heros are superpower.
In the movie, Captain America always pursue the public purpose. But he confused between friendship and public purpose. It means even heros are not a perfect and they do what they believe even though it is wrong.
I got message that selection is always important and consider to do it. Marvel Series are always show us evil versus heros and always handsome and nice. but I think it is not boring but very ineresting because many humanism reasons appears and the story are very connectable with other series of marvel movies and very compact strories.
We can predict the outcome of the movie and Justice always win but great action covered the predictable outcome. The movie is very nice if my friends ask the movie, I tell him ‘just watch it’.

ReplyDeleteThe movie 'Captain America : Civil War, 2016' is the story of fight between heroes. Actually I didn't know about Marvel story in detail, so it was difficult for me to understand the flow of the story. But the movie was very interesting, and I think it is an undeniable truth.
As you can see from the poster, main character is Captain America, Iron man and Bucky. Three of them are all Caucasian male and handsome. Especially I think Captain America is the most attractive character, because I could feel the power in the helicopter scene. In that scene, he held a helicopter by his arm to stop the helicopter. I heard lots of girls fall in love with Captain America in this part:) Except the main characters, other supporting characters were all attractive too. They had their own supernatural powers, but I liked Scarlet witch’s ability. She has a telekinesis, and it was awesome.
I think the producer trying to say ‘The truth will come out’ and ‘Who breaks pays’. These are meaningful lessons. And I think harmony of fighting scenes and meaningful lessons made the movie much more interesting. It was worth the money. After I saw the movie, I recommended it to my friends. But the ending was a little bit ambiguous for me. I felt like there’s no definite ending. Maybe it’s because of the next series I think. Credit cookie was also implied that next series will come up.
From old times I loved action movies, so the movie 'Captain America : Civil War, 2016' was very interesting to me. I can’t wait to see a next movie. But I think I have to study for Marvel story before I see the next movie:)

ReplyDeleteMy sister and I really looked for to watching this movie since few months ago. This movie is the third series movie of Captain America, and I think this is totally different from the other two previous movies of Captain America. Why? Because I could see almost all members of Avengers even it was not Avengers series, Captain came into conflict with Iron Man and some of other members of Avengers, and he made a new team with Bucky, Hawk-Eye, Ant Man, and so on.
Maybe the producer tried to convey the message about great friendship between two men, because Captain America really tried to protect and support his old friend Bucky. I know Bucky is his best friend, but in some ways, I didn't understand about Captain's behaviors.
And the point I really disappointed by Marvel Entertainment was that the main characters of Almost all Marvel movies are MEN! Not a Women! They often describe women characters as sidekicks. But as you know, in some ways women are stronger and more intelligent than men. I'd like to have told the producer of the movie that I expect to watch a movie with a main woman character in your next movie.

ReplyDeleteI have always been watching marvel series so far. The movie ‘Captain America : Civil War’ was exciting as expected. Especially Their quality of action was high and also made me feel image beauty. But I felt the composition of story falls compared to previous series a little bit. There are many messages in movie but I think the important part is ‘The action for good also can lead evil.’ For their sprattle, many innocent people are damaged. Two main male characters are handsome. It has made me see the movie so long. Mostly, female characters are supporting of the main character. It’s natural that Physical strength of men is high. The outcome of the movie is predictable. I think It doesn’t mean that good wins evil. We can’t ignore the double sideness of avengers because thee evil in movie is led by avengers. It’s worth watching the movie. Because the scale of screen makes us feel the image beauty more and It’s hot issue between people. but the story development is not so good. so I recommend this movie depending on friend’s standard. If the producer gives the aspect of human, it would be good. Reversal appeal must affect good effect.

ReplyDeleteI watched the movie 'Captain America:Civil War' almost 5 weeks ago. Until I watched this fantastic movie, I've never seen 'MARVEL Series' movie. It was my first marvel series movie which I see at the movie theater. Because I didn't watch previous series movies, I didn't know well about characters, stories etc. However, It didn't matter. After I watched the movie, I became the fan of MARVEL. It was wonderful and fantastic.
In the movie, there are many characters(heroes) who use their own special skill. Not all the characters are men and have good appearance. Each character has their unique appearance. Main characters,Captain America and Iron man,use shield and suit. When they use these tools, they show us super power and could fight well. Heroes are divided into two teams(Cpt America team, Iron man team) and each team has different opinion about Avengers.Cpt America wants to protect his friend Bucky and Iron man wants revenge because his parents were murdered by Bucky.
Even though Heroes' action scenes are so spectacle that my eyes are fixed to the screen, its running time is more than two hours so sometimes it was boring. It was interesting enough but not the best movie I've ever seen. But if Marvel's next movie will be premiered, I will run to the theater.
Finally, honestly speaking, I couldn't realize the director's purpose perfectly. I just enjoyed heroes' action scenes. However, One thing I got from this movie is that person has not to be selfish. We always have to think others. I want to recommend this movie to my near people who enjoy action movie.

ReplyDeleteI really wanted to see the movie, 'Captain America : Civil War' but I decided not to watch this movie. Although I'm a big fan of marvel hero movies, I missed many marvel series including 'Avengers : Age of Ultron'. So I guess it would be really hard for me to understand the movie 'Civil War'. Instead, I watched the movie 'X-man : Apocalypse', another series of MARVEL. Unlike Avengers series, I've watched all of X-man movies so I just can't miss this movie. To cut to the point, the movie was amazing. There are some reasons why I love this movie.
Firstly, this movie shows incredible computer graphic. As this movie is S/F genre movie there are many people are mutants. As a result, they have to use their ability frequently such as flying in the air, shooting fire by looking at. And the movie describes those graphics amazingly. I literally couldn't shut my mouse while watching movie as there graphics were stunning. Frankly, I felt like I could watch their computer graphics even if I never knew the plot of the movie.
Next, movie's two main character's relationship makes me excited and satisfied. I know it looks weird that I felt satisfied watching their relationship but it's totally true. At the movie, they were on different side of the war. They were enemies as they had different perspective of mutant and normal people. So they had to fight a lot on the movie but finally they reconciled and became friends again. Shortly what made me feel excited was how they understand each other in the end. I know it's common storyline that every Hollywood movie includes but actors' acting skills made story looked in more interesting way.
Many people who don't like to watch this kind of movie might say MARVEl movies are just boring as they are all fake. It's true but obviously there are so much charming points that we can only enjoy on MARVEL's movie. I sincerely recommend this movie to someone who never like S/F movie. I ensure they will find another attractive part of hero movie.
Claudia(박시연,201431065)
ReplyDeleteI saw this movie in the day when it released in Korea. Actually, I am not interested in marvel, but one of my friend who is really a big fan of marvel pressed me to see it. And it was not bad. I could not understand the whole story when I see the movie, because I didn't watch previous story of it, so I searched the explanation of 'Captain America : Civil War'in the web. The story was about internal conflict in the Avengers, devided into two team(one of the team was who agree with the 'A Registration system of super hero' and the other was who disagree with it.) But the truth was external conspiracy by one man who lost his family because of the Avengers. I felt really sorry for Iron man when Captain america stand by Winter soldier when they fight. Captain America tkae Winter soldier's side, saying Winter soldier is his freind. But Iron man is also a friend of Captain. Captain should not discriminate one of them. And when Black Panther come to the screen for the first time, I thought he was bad guy because he wears like baddy. But once i knew that he was good character, I became a fan of him because he is so strong. It was really amazing that the material called 'Vibranium' has no rival.
On the whole, i liked the movie 'Captain America : Civil War' and I want to recommend it to my friends.
David (김준호 201131429)
ReplyDeleteI literally disliked this movie for few reasons. The action scenes were dynamic and stress-blowing, and the tension was there throughout the movie. Story was convincing until the last moment; where whole thing happened because Zemo’s personal revenge, which seemed a little bit too personal and somewhat petty. The ‘team’ breaking for just a personal revenge in a very big scale, including blowing up a conference where many representatives of countries around the world? Didn’t make any sense or nor did it persuade me. The fact that Captain America was too arrogant and obsessed with Buccky -his old friend known as the winter soldier- and the fact that the Iron man was too selfish, also was a point where I personally disliked each character, making it hard for me to like the movie itself. The movie was enjoyable overall, but it didn’t meet my expectations nor was the story persuading.
임민지 (MJ 201431166)
ReplyDeleteI didn't really expect this movie to turn out so awesome because I saw Batman vs. Superman right before this one. Both have a similar story, super heroes fighting over each other, but Batman vs. Superman was a total disaster. However, the way Civil War developed its story was reasonable. There wasn't a complete bad guy in this movie. Everybody had there own reasons for their actions.
But one thing that bothered me was Captain America's behavior. I mean, he was the captain of the team. Couldn't he have just explained to the rest of the team that Bucky wasn't the one who blew up the UN? I believe as a captain, he should've tried to keep the team together, not just going after Bucky.
And even though Bucky was brainwashed when he killed Tony's parents, that doesn't mean it is totally okay with Tony. I felt pity for him because Captain said to Tony that Bucky is his friend and that's why he is trying so hard to protect him, but Tony thought he was his friend too. Captain was really selfish in this movie.

ReplyDeleteMovie I watched is Captain America: Civil War. When I watched Captain America: Civil War, I was amazed how well director created this movie. I think what this movie tells us is that if person have no freedom than he or she doesn’t have responsibility for his or her action. Movie shows Bucky, who is brainwashed and committed many heavy crimes when he didn’t wanted to. Many people want to capture him and punish him for crimes he did when he was brainwashed. But Bucky didn’t have freedom to choose his action, so he doesn’t have responsible for his action. I think that is why Captain America, beside from fact that Bucky is his friend, tries so hard to save Bucky. If freedom takes responsibility, without freedom of own action there should be no responsibility.
1. What message is the producer trying to convey?
ReplyDeleteOne of the most precious value is ‘friendship’. Even after fighting each other, with real friendship they can hold each other’s hand again.
2. Are there any life lessons the movie is trying to share?
Don’t forget all of you guys have friends to ask help when you get in trouble. How many friends you have is not important. Only one is still enough like Captain America and Iron man.
3. What are some stereotypical parts played by people in the movie? Is the main character a male? A caucasian male? Is he tall, handsome, and young? Does he smoke?
No, I don’t think so. There are few heroes and one of them is female. She’s not the main character, more like sub-main character but Marvel studio has a plan to make a solo movie for that female character. Captain America who’s causcasian, tall and handsome is really nice and I like him, but I also like the black guy. He’s also tall and handsome and really cool. So I couldn’t feel any stereotypical parts while watching this movie.
4. Is the supporting role of the main character a male or female? Do you think there's anything odd about this?
There are several characters supporting the main character (male). Of course two of them is woman. There were only ‘two’ woman with 6 guys, but I don’t want to think this issue as a sexual discrimination. This is just about what’s the main subject and genre of the movie. This movie is about war and this is more familiar to men. From long, long time ago, there were thousands of wars and most of the soldiers were men. That’s why we think men is more used to be soldier and fight. So, if the genre of the movie is romance the main character could be woman and supporting role also could be woman. This movie, Civil war, I think 2 women was good. If there were more women than that, that’s also could be cool but only 2 was enough.
5. Is the outcome of the movie predictable? Did Good trimuph over Evil? Did the movie end with a possible sequel in mind? Something for the watcher to hope for in the future? How do you know?
Yup! As same as other Marvel’s movie, good one always triumph over evil. And I like this kind of ending. Because these days, too many bad accidents occurs. And some of criminals don’t go to jail just because they have a lot of money and strong power (like political power or economic power). So, at least in the movie, I want to see the good one always win.
6. What is your overall feeling of the movie? Was it worth the money you paid for? Why or why not? Would you refer your friends to go watch this movie? Why or why not?
I love Marvel’s movie, so yeah it worth the money I paid for. I could meet many characters of Marvel heroes I love at once, such as Iron man, Captain America and there were several new heroes who have never been in ‘Avengers’ series. For example, Spiderman and Ant man. That was pretty interesting.
The most impressive part was fighting scene of course. They didn’t fight seriously and even make me fun because there were some funny episode while they’re fighting.
But the storyline is only the one I feel sorry. There were not that special thing. Captain America’s friend, Becky, get in trouble, but he’s the one who made Iron man’s parents dead (not his own will, he was controlled by someone who is bad). Captain America try to save his friend from enemy, Iron man try to remove Becky and that’s why Captain America fights with Iron man. At the end they made up each other and that’s all. Pretty simple. I think it would be better if there were some more specific or detail and little bit complicated stories.
7. What would you like to have told the producer of the movie if you could? To possibly change the movie to make it better.
I really want to watch the solo movie of Black widow. I really want to know the story of her. Her past stories such as why she has to be KGB and what happened there, what did Black widow do in there and why/how she could leave that organization.
with real friendship they can hold each other’s hand again. --> hold each other's hands again ;)
DeleteHer past stories such as why she has to be KGB --> why she had to be in KGB
