When do you think is the most important period in one’s life? I think childhood is the most important period for human. During age of 0 to 8, human learns not only life-required skills, but also emotional skills such as interaction, relationship, and handling emotions. Many researches have shown that childhood memory decides whether the child become positive or negative person. Negative childhood experience will cause a life-long problem and it sometimes becomes one’s adversity. But what makes it a huge problem is that once the child’s way of thinking and feeling is formed, it is very hard to change. Therefore, we should protect children from bad experiences and support them to have good experiences. In a broad sense, government must take their duty and responsibility to make safe-non-deficient welfare system. In a narrow sense, every single parents should take responsibility to make their children happy. If they can’t, they should wait until they are ready for the precious life.

    1. I agree with the opinion that childhood is the most important period for human. Their are some old saying that "what's learned in the cradle is carried to the grave " indicate the facts. Actually, babies knows more than we think. They can feel who hates them and who loves them. But, I think not only childhood but also an adolescent period are very important for human. what do you think about it?

From this writing, I come up with educational psychology which I learned before. Erikson who is one of the celebrated psychologists, rejected Freud's theory somehow, by developing his theory which people are affected for their whole life. According to Erikson's psychological development theory, people make their important identity through social interaction for whole life, rather than through only period of infants. I don't think of that the experience which people went through before will have a effect untill the middle years of one's life. what do you think about it? How long do you think it will have a effect to their life?

Thank you for your comment. :) I think adolescent period is also important! While human learns many emotional skills during childhood, I think human learns the perspective of seeing things during adolescent period. Teenagers learn how to see the world and try to have their opinion about it. So, adolescent period is as important as childhood. :) But, I am sure that who had a good childhood memory will see the world more positive during teenage ages.

Human is on-going beings. So, they must be affected by their whole lives. This is true. People's perspective, opinion, thought and everything is influenced by the surroundings and is changing. But, what I wanted to say is that the first set the human get as their social and emotional skills is from their childhood period with their family. :)

To answer your question, I would say it depends on the person and one's experience. I believe that it is a matter of recognition and overcoming. If the person recognize some problems caused by their childhood and try to overcome, the time of suffering would be shortened but, if the person doesn't recognize and so don't try to overcome, the time of suffering would be forever. But, in general I think most of bad childhood memories are there for life-long adversity. Therefore, I think it will have a effect for their whole lives.

      Thank you for commenting :)

I totally agree with your opinion about childhood is the basic background personality forming period, but I would say that its more complicated or complex to simply express it that way. Just like you said, after our basic personality is built, the situations in life we go through after one's childhood add up and give change to our previously formed character. So this means that those experiences that we go through can change us in a good way or bad way regardless of how our childhoods have formed our personalities in advance. On top of what I have just said, its definitely true that characteristic formation is mostly influenced by our childhood, so that I totally agree with your idea of what we and government should do.
      Nice topic:)

    7. I agree with you opinion. Childhood is a period which sets one's perspective and attitude. I agree with that.
But I think a little bad experience can be helpful for some cases, because adversity can be someone's motivation.

    10. I agree with you. The relationship between parent and a child is important because forming relationship in one's childhood can be critical. This can influence in one's personality and the attitude. In my case, when I was living with my paternal grandmother for a short time, she didn't take care of me. She got angry when I cried and whined. When I returned and lived with my maternal grandmother, I became conscious of her facial expression. I tried not to make my grandmother angry. In this sense, the experience in childhood and the relationship between a child and people are really important.

I totally agree with you Jim. As you know, I volunteer for the single parented children. I spend time playing sports like soccer and badminton with them. But as I spend more time with these children I feel their loneliness within them. Parents should be more careful and they should never do things that will hurn their own children. It's essential that if parents have children, they would be more responsible. Children are not things, they are lives that are precious.

I agree to Jim's post. Once I saw interviews of parents whose children are victim of day care center violency. They said that their children often asked them if they were good for nothing or they had to be killed. Such kind of humiliation leaves huge hurt to young children and it doesn't wipe away easily.
Therefore I think government should focus on protecting child from having bad experince. They should take some drastic actions other than just setting up CCTV.

  2. In korea there are lots of superstitions that many koreans still believe and practice even without knowing explanation why. Some korean says that whistling at knight will bring spirits. And my mother always says that do not cut my nail at night. because rat would come and eat it. In my case, I don't believe superstitions. I think that people who believe in superstition are weak. when people are unable to rule out life, they prefer to take the safer route and don't want do something which can later lead to some adversity, harm or injury. This is why most superstitions are associated with a fear. So I think people should be able to control his life when anything happens to him. And relying on superstition only make people timid. Actually it is said that superstition has no scientific explanation and it is not proven until today. I believe that most of superstition are groundless. what do you think about believing superstition?

Good topic to talk about Juho! I also don't believe superstitions. I once thought that it is stupid when my grandparents forced me to follow them. But, I realized that we cannot just neglect them only because there are no full explanation about them. There must be a background of starting them. Also, I accepted it as the way of expressing love by worrying about us. It is a typical Korean culture of showing one's love I think. It is just same as our parents saying be careful when you walk across the street. Even though they are bothersome, I just try to accept them. :)

    4. I agree with JiM. There are lots of superstitions not only in Korea but also everywhere where people lives in. I know it could seem as fool and weak but I think It also helps people to get stability and have a peace by not to do what should be not to do. In broden perspectives, superstitions can be connected with religions. Like a superstitions, religions can't explained and can't totally understand why. However, many peoples believe their religion and lean on their God. For example, bow before the Great Buddha in the temple relieving their worry. I think supersitition and religions have some weak point when it's excessive, but it also have strong points when it's moderate.

Whoever went and came back from the Earth to the space, they start to believe the religion or superstitions whatever it is. Do you know why? They thought there are so many things which cannot be explained by science or common sense. It doesn't mean that the religions or superstitions can cover everything, but we should know why people believe. I thought it is wrong that we completely deny superstitions because we have a lot of things which cannot be proved by science.

Well, all the countries should have their own superstitions, but among them, asian countries might have the most superstitions which sometimes can be regarded as pathetic, unrealistic old sayings. I do agree with you in a way that those superstitions are groundless and sometimes can be excessive. However, in my opinion, just like fairy tales and old proverbs, superstitions are also one of the traditional stories. Even I do not prefer listening to people who fit every situation into superstition, I try hard not to comment about it because it could be somewhat important to few individuals or families.

      Delete
    8. I don't believe superstitions but they have some good sides.
They have indirect meaning like proverbs. For example, In the night, you shouldn't cut your nails because rats might eat them. That might mean that rat really comes to eat them. But it means that not cutting your nails in the night because night is dark to see my nails bouncing to where I guess. People want to say directly to children as I mention and it doesn't work to children. So people think which way is stimulating to children and easy to remember. Then superstitions are finally made. No matter what superstitions are, people get the result which they want by making superstitions
For the other good side, they can be safer route or precaution and give safe feeling to some weak people as you said. Just for feeling, it works to people. It is like relaxing way as religion does.
It looks stupid to believe superstitions but still we believe them. There are always reasons to keep believing them.

    9. Justin Shim(심준영)

I agree also. I don't think there are any superstitions that really happen.
But if you think about it, some superstitions do not fit into our daily lives. They were made and said back in the old days and have been passed down to us. It may have been serious taboos back then, but now I'm sure the superstitions are just funny jokes that we could say normally and enjoy.

One more, I have been collecting all the fallen leaves in the box, because I heard that catching the fallen leaves grant a person's wish.

Did you read your book lately? These days, people are getting used to reading a short summary than the whole text. That tendency even makes people to avoid books with rich content. We all know that reading is good for our soul, but we often compromise with our laziness or be stopped by the busy reality. If you just look around, you will see the problem with your own eyes. It is really hard to find someone reading book on the bus or the subway in Korea. Even if you find one, the book on his hand will be mostly study-aid books for school. Koreans are surely living busy lives, but we need to read not only for the better score but also for human sensibility and the knowledge of life.

In addtion, korean digital media is really stimulating and funny. So when people want to find something fun, they tend to find it with internet or TV

    6. I agree with you. Reading books is important for people, but they usually don't read books because they think it is a waste of time. People would read books when it becomes a compulsory task. When I was taking a English leaning program, reading books was one of our homework. We had a discussion about a particular book every class. When we finish reading, we gave a presentation. This was a meaningful experience because even though it was compulsory, I could read eight books in a year.

So I alway tried to read books with paper. It will be useful habit for you, too. My parents always told me to read a useful book which have professional knowledge. 10. I think this tendency of avoid reading starts with TV. People prefer visual stimulation. Few years ago I read an article about reading and technology. The earlier you exposed to visual stimulation like TV or movie, the less motive to read book. Visual stimulation makes very big effects to the children. They simply don't feel any merit reading books while there are many TV programs which is more interesting.

I agree with you! It is becoming a huge problem that people are not reading books anymore. But, I think we cannot just blame the ones who don't read books. There are too many easy, quick contents that can substitute for books and people are so overwhelmed by their school or work lives that they just want to kill their time when they have time between. I understand that it is a big problem because people who read many books are better than who doesn't. However, any of Korean environment doesn't help people to read books. For example, the stupid new law regulates the discount of the books. Even Korean government doesn't encourage people to read.

The general solution that I can think of is that the non-material quality of Koreans' lives must be developed and there are a huge responsibility for our government to do so.

  5. Nowadays, the creadit system for military service are hot potato. The credit system for military service is the system that give credits to the person who take some online class during the military service. Some people disagree with the credit system for some reasons. In my opinion, however, I am totally agree with the system.
First of all, there should be a compensation for the young man who are spend time for two years only for the national security. Oftenly, people tend to take serviceperson's sacrifice for granted. The miliatary service is treat as a conventional system but we should pay attention to their sacrifice.
Secondly, some people are disagee with the system because they think the credit system is kind of reverse discrimination. One federation in korea disagree with the credit system because It could be the reverse discrimination for women, disabled people, and people with highschool diploma. Furthermore, they argue that online class will deteriorate quality of teaching. I agree with them in half, but I think the military service by definition is a discrimination. The sodiers are spending their time for two years just for because of they are man and they are healthy. They live in poor surroundings with intensive training with the object of saving our nation. Therefore, mentioning reverse discrimination for this topic does not make sense.

For these reasons, I am totally agree with the credit system for military service and there should be some more welfares for the soldiers.

I agree with you. Even though credit system is only for the group of university students, it doesn't mean that it is unnecessary. Government cannot satisfy every single interest groups at once. I think the credit system is a starting of compensating for every groups. It would be unreasonable(stupid) if you disagree the credit system only because it cannot satisfy every groups. The credit system is not the contradiction of another compensation for other groups. We should accept it as a continuous process of compensation for every single groups.

Thanks for your post. Actually, I also worry about that problems and as I written at my post, It is also the reason why people are disagree with the system.

I want to make sure that the real meaning of credit system is gave some compensations for the most of youngman, not aggravate reverse discrimination.

    The Adversity of Prostitution.

Under the current law, people who is compelled into prostitution and who compel the woman into prosititution will be arrested. This is because it is considered as promote an atmosphere of social disharmony. However, some of prostitute go through second adversity now. I'd like to contend that this law should be abolished for the woman who works of her own free will.

First reason is that the current law is unconstitutional, as in sexual self decision and freedom of job choice. It doesn't mean that it is social harmony or it is good job, but at least we should give a guarantee or protect their basic human right. There are many people who make their living by prostitution. I believe that every honest occupation deserves esteem.

Second reason is that there is few effectiveness of current law. I'm sure that you can see many flyer in order to attract men on the street. Are you sure that it could be completely effective to reduce red-light district? Of course, some of them disappeared, but rather it was changed to Kiss Room or Anma(Massage) Room more. Also, we need to secure tax revenues from legalization rather than we struggle in financial condition.

we need to abolish current law which is for no reason, or amend for more effectiveness and for protecting the basic rights such as the sexual self decision and freedom of the job choice.

Hmm... I think this is a really sensitive and huge problem. But, I haven't made my mind what to say about it. Some people say that legalizing prostitution will solve some problems because they no longer have to work secretly and so the quality of work place will get better. They say if people still use it under the strict regulations, it would be better to just legalize it and be under the government's control. On the other hand, some people say that prostitution is ethically wrong, doesn't matter of one's sexual self decision and freedom of job choice.

What do you think? You mentioned about getting rid of regulations on prostitution but, then should it be legalized?

I agree that prostitution is still prevalent in our society, whether is legal or illegal. However, I am wonder about the side-effects like venereal disease could be under controlled too. Sometimes, we need to pay more money for coffee than meal!. Especially, some brand coffee is expensive. Some people say "That's ok, because it's good enough" but I think we are overpaying. I got a news that korean starbucks coffee is more expensive than japanese one and american one, even though korean rent fee and payment is cheaper than others. In Jan 2015 Korean starbucks americano is 4100 won, japanese one is 3633 won and american one is 2477. It shows us how we overpay for a coffee. We spend at leat 4 years in college, so that counts up to 1460 days. If you calculate it, it's 5,986,000won in 4 years. It's like buying a car. Doesn't it sound crazy?

Therefore those coffee shops with the high prices of coffee should balance the price if they want to grow further.

  9. The beginning of mobile communication was voice call, and after that, text chat service like messengers or SNS become mainstream. But lately, coming forward of nonverbal communication was pushing out the language in mobile messenger. Indeed I’ve been using numerous emoticons, so some relevant articles were quite interesting.

For instance, mobile messenger ‘YO’ have been very popular in U.S. You can send a message only ‘Yo’, and answer either. Just click your friend name, it send ‘Yo’ automatically. ‘Yo’ have situationally different meanings such as “What're you doing?, or Did you have lunch?”. Another example is ‘Emojli’. It is a way of talking only using emoticons that show our feelings, and it has such a popularity that 70,000 people applied for admission on the second day. We can call this way of communication service a ‘Tap to talk’ messenger. We can simply send a image or just word without long conversation.
The first reason why did this ‘Tap to talk’ ways become popular is that nonverbal element makes up about 93 percent of humans communication. It mean, nonverbal communication is an attributes of humans. Another reason is that recreation culture was added to messenger. This kind of messengers are very popular among friends who don’t need talking. People were using it by playing, except in important situation like business relationship.
The image is receiving attention as the way that can replace the letter. But that doesn't mean it never use words, it could be briefly described by hashtags. And also, if you click some hashtags, it can function like searching service by collecting images as same category. Sometime just one picture can have more information and clear message than long writing. That’s the reason why did this kind of services get attention.

I think this kind of trend is pretty interesting. I hope I can use more communication services offering lot of emoticons like Emojli. I had lots of time when I used images for expressing my feeling in text message. I agree that some pictures and emoticons can easily deliver my feelings or messages. How about your thinking?

How do you think about the death penalty?
Some people think capital punishment is barbaric or others think it is absolutely necessary. and I think this is needed some case.
Nowadays, The crime rate is increasing and level of crime is getting deep.
However, Korea has abolished this system. so That's why I have considered it is very ethical and, some people insist Criminals also have human rights.
course, they have their rights but, for this reason, victims are getting more pain. criminals are released after being imprisoned for many years, Victims therefore are more afraid. I think this necessarily requires the death penalty for those who committed a felony. if we do the possibility of recurrence is also lowered and victims will also be able to escape from fear.
My major is life science and I know how important a person's life but I think you don't need any mercy to these people.
they need to take responsibility for their actions and be punished for a crime even death.

    1. I often considered this issue. I don' like our goverment decision. Criminal revoke victim's right, so they must take responsibility. We don't need to consider criminal's human right. I don't want to give them mercy. Especially, in Korea, penalty of them is too light. I guess they don't feel any guilty due to this problem. I afraid second conviction. I mean, I totally agree that Class A criminals should take death penalty.

    2. I also think capital punishment is needed. The criminals have to take their responsibility for their actions and be punished properly. Certain crimes such as child sex offense or murder deserve the most severe punishment. and it should be the death penalty. I think the death penalty will be helpful to prevent future crime and to give warning to the society

  12. In my opinion different culture hinders immigration.

In cultural aspect, Westerners see themselves in particular and Easterners see themselves as a whole. In other words, Westerners think that the society a conjoint of each individual which emphasize the “individual”, while Easterners consider the society as biological-organism which emphasize the “community”. The difference of Westerners and Easterners shows in a simple test. When they are asked to select two objects which they think is related between monkey, panda, and banana, Westerners chose monkey and panda, but Easterners chose monkey and banana. This is because Westerners focus on individuals and grouping by categories, while Easterners focus on the relationship between two objects.

Different perspectives in making connections of objects are developed from the past. Trade industry was an important industry in Greece and because of the trading industry Greeks had opportunities to face other thoughts and culture. In the process of trading Greeks were inevitable of communicating with others. As a result, Greeks could develop argument to solve problems when they were having conversations with others. On the other hand, China was an agricultural country and because they were working together living in the same community, working harmoniously with each other and avoiding conflicts was essential. Living in different environment made difference in economic and political policies. Moreover, different policies led Westerners and Easterners to have different philosophy and religion, and different relationship between them.

As a result, difference in cultures makes difficulty for immigrants in permeating into the host country.

How do you think about immigrating to another country? Do you think they would easily adapt and permeate into the new country?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm interesting with this test! (I choosed monkey and banaa kk)
But I cannot find how difficult immigrants are in your writing. What makes them difficult for adapting?
Well, maybe, they would have cultural problem in conversations or working. I think it depends on just individual attitudes. This china case is not a solution in all times. Sometimes we should understand personally. It may spend long time to mediate differences of opinions, but if I were them, I won't enforce acceptance of my thought.

      Delete
    2. I like to read about cultural things. Immigrating is good way and should be permitted i think. This world is globalizing everywhere no matter how we want it or not. As many people come and go for their reason, some of them need to stay where they were not born. That's why we need immigration.
In cultural point, immigration could plus cultural diversity. Cultural diversity makes our culture rich and stimulated. That is the most affective one.
For example, Itaewon in Seoul is getting hot place for visitting and experiencing mutinational cultures. I really like it! And also china town in Incheon, we could find new ones and feel chinese culture instead of visitting china.
Of course, there some problems which you mentioned. I think that we can prevent it by testing and interview. We need to select people who can accept and understand culture of the country. Then we can get advantages and avoid disadvantages from immigration.

      Delete
    3. I think even in similar culture ,like Korean and China, immigration takes a lot of effort. If you want to immigrate, the most important information you should know is about their cultural background. I once lived in China and at that time I barely know anything. For that reason I have to face many difficulties. In common sense, Asian culture considered similar. However I faced quiet lot of differences during staying. So immigrating needs to be considered carefully.

What do you think about the small wedding?

These days, many celebrities are becoming the topic of conversation in Seoul, because of their modest wedding. Accordingly, the small wedding is becoming a huge trend. I personally prefer this trend. First of all, the cost of the wedding is enormous, so that many people feel reluctant to bear the considerable cost of the wedding. Instead of spending that much money on the wedding, I think it is more practical to add those money to supply their married life.
Secondly, two people who love truly do not turn in a formal ceremony is an opportunity that they can stick to the original meaning of the wedding ceremony that promising the everlasting love.

I agree with your idea. I also prefer this trend of small wedding. I think it is a good thing that many celebrities go for small weddings since a lot of people might want to have their weddings the same way. It will help the newly married couples financially and make them feel more intimated between themselves and their guests. Interesting subject!

      Delete
    2. I agree with your opinion. Some people want to show off througout their wedding. It doesn't make sense. As you mentioned, two people who love truly do not need fancy wedding. Even if wedding day is only one day in one's life, expense in wedding doesn't matter.

      Delete
    3. I also small wedding is good choice for marriage but, you mean how small?
In Korea, Bin One and Na-Young Lee married and there are only their family. They didn't invite their friends or co-workers.
Do you want like this wedding ceremony not inviting friends?

      Delete
    4. I get the idea and I agree that the smaller scale of wedding is kinda of financially healthier way considering the future newly married couple has to manage their marriage life after the wedding but the reason why so called "big scale" wedding march being done still is that it has been a thing for long time and parents want to "reap what they sow"(. Because parents already given or paid money gift for happy occasions, they want to kind of get them back as much as they can when their children are getting married:( There is also a saying marriage is parents' party(결혼은 부모님 잔치다). So maybe it's not an easy thing to make it small if parents aren't cool with that.

      Delete
    5. I agree with this trend. Many people would see the celebrities through media so they could be the good example to many people. And for economical perspective, it would be nice. I also heard the government have a small wedding campaign. because small wedding prevent empty formalities and vanity.
When I grow up and get married, I should consider of small wedding!

      Delete
    6. I prefer small wedding. Before we discuss about this, we should think about what does wedding mean. For me Wedding is a promise between man and women who loves each other and celebrating about it. So it shouldn't have to be enormous. It doesn't matter how small it is, where the wedding takes place. There's many people who want enormous wedding because they want to get more attention. But 'small' wedding doesn't mean 'less' special wedding. With close family and friends who can share our joy, wedding is special to everyone.

I agree with your opinion. People get so stressed when they have to
prepare for a huge wedding. It is not a good idea financially as well. I
      personally think that trying to
make a wedding way too fancy and big would be a waste of money.it's not the
material items that are important. All it matters is how much they love each other.
I also think it would be good to invite only the closest friends and family so it won't be
too crowded and it would be much more comfortable and private.

    8. I agree with this trend for another reason. Young generation are suffering from money and job. In this situation, spending too much money affects to later budget. In some divorce cases, Spending too much budget to the wedding is the reason of divorce.

  15. Nowadays, animal testing is become a one of hot issues since many people start to have interest in animal protection. I think animal experiment should be exhibited. There are two reasons.
First of all, effect of animal testing has little effect. This is because, animal’s body structure is quite different to human’s one. Also, human and animals share only 2 percentages of all kinds of diseases. To be specific, some researchers experimented weather smoke cause pneumonia or not. They tested on animals and the result was no. However, actually, smoking triggers acute pneumonia.
Secondly, animal testing give pain and harm. Actually, animals have been being people’s best friends for many years. However, over 5,000,000 of animal are killed for experiment every year in Korea. I will give you one of example of animal testing for cosmetics. 1. Put a rabbit in a small box and attach its face and put material experiment to the rabbit’s eye for 3 weeks. Than the rabbit is administered euthanasia and extract its eyes for finding harm. Humans are really caring about their happiness and anthropocentricism cause discrimination to animals. Because we coexist with animals for long time, animal help our society many variable ways. Therefore, we have to protest animal testing.

    What do you think?????

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh.. I feel sorry for animals after read your writing.. but it is a sensitive issue. We cannot oppose testing emotionally. Because we need to test with animals for clinical or medical use. You said their body structure is different to human’s one, but some medical purposes don't need their structure. We need them for vaccine research or new operative technique. Some times we need surrogate things for medical research. Then what is your solution to replace animals..? Human body? I don't know..
Well, I agree prohibition of animal experiment for cosmetic, not for medical purpose.

      Delete
    2. I feel bad for the animals as well. People have no rights to use animals and decide their life or death for our own purposes. However, we must make sure on medical purposes since it directly leads to our safety. In this case, we cannot test the medical treatments on humans since it could be very dangerous. Therefore, a lot of people think animals are the best substitute although there is a difference in structure between humans and animals. If you disagree on animal experiment, what could be another option?

Todays, many students have got stressed out from a heavy load of school works. It is very harmful to their health. So, they need some ways to manage their stress. First, they should have some time to relax. Many people do not spend time for rests because they are so busy to complete their projects such as presentations or tests. It is stressful because they have to concentrate on the projects anytime. That’s why people should get some rests after they finish their works to manage their stress. Second, they can release their stress by spending time with their friends and family. Many students can talk about some interesting stories that they have experienced before. By doing this, they can forget about some events that made them upset. Talking to friends about the stories is a good chance to recharge energy and to manage stress. Finally, going to rural places or trips is helpful to release stress. If people go to country, they could see more trees or flowers and have fresh air than urban places. Also, if they travel other countries, they could see some famous places in there. It is a good way to refresh themselves and to motivate them to study hard. Going to rural and new places is beneficial for them to manage stress. Therefore, people need some ways to release stress for their better life. By getting some rests, spending time with friends and going some places where they want to visit, they can release or manage stress.

Kids go to academies and study at school for a very long time making them exhausted and stressed. This stressful situation continues when they become older. Adults have to work until late at night which makes them hard to get enough rest. Spending time for rests, spending time with other people and visiting rural places are good solutions to this matter. In my case, I watch a movie to release my stress which is really helpful.

When the students become adult, they could be relax and enjoy their lives.

I think the biggest problem these days is that it’s not easy for us to have enough time to relieve our stress.

    4. I think people should have at least one stress release habit. When I was in high school, I play basketball with my friend. it was really good way to solve stress at that time. When I see the Korean students, I'm pathetic to them. The government should guarantee the time to release students stress. Whatever the method is the stress realesing is needed I think.

Getting stress is unavoidable in modern society. so it's important to know how to release stress. Recently I saw many news that cover accidents like random violence who attacked passerby for no reasons and people who suicide. I think it's because people are getting so much stress but they don't know how to release it heathily. so people have to find their own way to release stress by trying many ways like those you said.

These days, we can easily find people doing random missionary work around the streets. These people give out objects such as paper, tissues, cards that advertise a particular church. This kind of advertisement is pretty normal. However, when this gets too excessive, we can easily find people who constantly follow you telling that you would go to hell if you don’t believe in God. One missionary work shocked me lately. I heard that a lot of Korean Christians went to Nepal for the recent earthquake disaster. It was unbelievable to hear that they told the people of Nepal that the reason of the earthquake was due to their belief of another religion. Therefore, they must believe in god and change their religion into Christianity. As a Christian myself, I really hate these attitudes of missionaries since it is extremely annoying, and don’t believe that this kind of missionary work would actually make people believe in God.

I have the same opinion as you Grace. I often meet these 'unwanted' people not only on roads and streets but also on the subway. I'm sure you've also seen them. I'm not saying that they are bad. I understand that they love their religion and that they have passion for it. But sometimes I get the feeling that they are a bit overreacting. I mean, who would think good of god if the person who is conveying the message is shouting "Believe in God and go to heaven"? I think it would be best if they could control themselves a bit.

I think their behaviors like that make other people annoyed and unpleasant and they would not go to any church. How can we solve this problem?

Chasing people with religious leaflets just make them feel sick about the religion.

Do you like games? I like and enjoy games. Korea is known for a country that have great skill, technique and enthusiasm about games. However, Korea government doesn’t support game industries well. Also, They made ‘Shut-down law’ to limit student’s time for games. People have had an intensive argument about this Shut-down law. I disagree this poor law.
Shut-down law is not effective. Superficial point is that students can not play games after 12:00 a.m. But, Our young friends already have so many conventional tricks against the poor law.
The law forces students. Although they are young, our students have right to be free.
Why I said that Shut-down law is poor law is that we abandon our international power and source. Entertainments about games like game tv show and game leagues are unique points that are successive and popular almost only in Korea, not in another countries. Games are potential sources that we can get top of world. But, Game industry of Korea is in very hard environment. Government doesn’t increase support to game industry and companies. Adults enjoying games are regarded as pathetic people in Korea. So, students become main consumers for games. However, Shut-down law prevents students from playing and just diminishes our power. Actually, our skillful progamers go overseas more and more to China.
How do you think about this law?

However, government came up with is pathetic idea of forcing students to study, which is naturally regarding game industry as harmful culture. While I was serving in the U.S. military, all of my foreigner friends told me how this regulation is stupid and they just cannot understand why the government prohibits the right of young students. These days, homosexuality is legally accepted in many countries. Right now in Korea, homosexuality is accepted but marriage between them is not. In this ambiguous period of trasition, Korea is now facing a new problem with them because of mandatory military service for men. Male homosexuals, usually called gay, have male bodies but do not sexually act or think like normal men. Do you all agree with the idea of sending gays to the military just because of their male appearance? There are strict military regulations prohibiting sexual harrasment or abuse, and homosexuals are very likely to violate them without intention, but with their sexual instinct. Of course we should not disregard their personal rights to love anyone, this matter should be talked over strictly since it's related to military where sexual relationship between soldiers is not acceptable. This kind of situation would make other soldiers feel uncomfortable, when they always have to be in a good shape in every way. In my opinion, the best soultion to this problem is to regard homosexuals as special group of people and make them NOT to serve in the military. In addition to that, for alternative, we can make them have one-on-one personal military training by soldier trainers in a form of acadamy, which does not make them to have group life. Based on my opinion, can there be a better solution? Or if you are on the opposite side of the statement, how would you say it's okay for homosexual to join the military?

    4. Actually, I think we should categorize the mental and physical gender of people more carefully and technically. I have studied about people's gender once, and I found that homosexual people are not who think like another gender but who just love people differently. Homosexual men are just like heterosexual men. They do not think or act like girl but just love male people. We can call men with women's mind "transgender". The term transgender signifies people with a gap between their physical gender and sexual identity. So I think It is definitely okay for homosexual people to join the military. For transgenders, well, I guess that should be an issue.

Sometimes we see news related to euthanasia on humans. This has been a controversial issue and there are still fights between the yes or no. People who agree on euthanasia argue that by carrying out euthanasia, we can let the patient be free from pain that is worse than death. Also as the euthanasia’s decision can be made by the patient himself, it is a solemn decision and a decision with dignity. On the other hand, those who disagree base their opinions on two reasons. One is that nevertheless the reason, euthanasia is actually murdering. Also they say extending the time of pain and treatments only to live is meaningless. Of course there should be a strict and detailed law to prohibit an abuse of the euthanasia as a murder.

  23. As we’re all university students, we always face group project, or group work. Scientists recommend teachers to do group work in class. Because many studies had shown that group study and group work improve students thinking ability and teamwork, which is considered important after graduate. However students always complain about the group work. There are three reasons for this complain. Frist, there are lots of free riders. Some students don’t want to do difficult and time spending work, so they try to do as less work as possible. This kind of attitude make other team members to work more. Second, this is kind of related to first one, they receive same amount of score. No matter how much effort each team member put, their score is same. Some professors made students to do interaction scoring, but its not that useful to prevent free riders. Last reason is that they have hard time to match their time lines. They all have different schedule, so ‘setting meeting time’ takes more time than you think.

It is because some students are so lazy and do not do their best to complete the project. However, they get the same score with other students who work hard for the project. Although you mentioned that group projects are good opportunity to improve studetns' thinking ability, it does not work well. So, what way is helpful to improve thinking ability not the group projects? How about taking discussion time in class and handing in evaluations including scores for discussion partners at the end of class?

In Korea, students have little chance to do team project before enter the university. I think because they are not familiar with it, they don't recognize about their responsibility. Also scoring strictly make fair for hard working student in project. Through resoving those problem we can make better team project enviroments.

There is always a free rider and every kind of people using tricks to take a smallest burden between the hard workers. It is sad to say, but a luck really controls an environment of a teamwork.

One part time job employee was fired immediately when other employee told their boss that he participated the festival, Besides, the boss's son, who heard that at the same time with the boss and is preparing to become a clergyman, visited the employee's mother and let her know that her son is a gay(so called "outing"). It isn't clear if the employee who has been outed is really a gay or not. Maybe he is really a gay or maybe he just went to the festival because it was interesting to him. But here in this case, who do you think has the most responsibility for the employee being outed and fired? And do you think it is a crime that the boss's son telling the employee's mother that her son is a gay? I think the other employee who told the boss and his son about that has the most responsibility regardless of his intention and the boss's son really crossed a line and overreacted that it makes libel and slander.

How often do you look at your smartphone?
I think people in Korea spend too much time on cell phone these days. According to the study, we spend more time on our smartphones than with our friends and family. It is not difficult to see that people in restaurant or cafe are using their Smartphone instead of talking each other. Also almost everyone in subway is staring at their phones. I think those can cause lack of conversation among members in society. I agree with that the smartphone is the greatest invention in the world but if people continue to overuse smartphones, it would cause severe side effects.

    1. I agree with you. Smart phones have bad influence to adults, and also to young students. I was surprised that even elementary school students have their smart phones. Using phones earlier make problems for example, using smartphones for a long time may cause low concentration and poor memorization.

I agree as well. Smart phones are very useful and is also the greatest invention of all times. We can use it for a lot of purposes. However it has some serious side effects. It badly affects our eyes and causes the decrease of conversation between people which is very important. I heard that it is very bad to look at your smartphone when you are inside a car. Also, doing smartphones before going to bed can cause insomnia. Although smartphones have a lot of good sides, we definitely have to reduce the time we use them.

    3. True true. I must admit that I use my phone a lot for chatting and searching some things, and using my phone before bed made my eye sights quite worse, I guess. Yes, it could cause less or lack of conversation between friends or family members, or even just people among the society but I also should admit that I get quite a lot of things(like news or interesting stories) to talk about with my friends from using my phone. So it is the one hard thing that how well we control ourselves from using smartphones, I think.

    4. In my opinion, people overuse smartphones and they are addicted to smartphones. Actually, I don't use my smartphone when I am with my friends because it can make them upset. However, many people use smartphones on not only subways but also buses. I also listen to music or use my phone on subways or buses. Moreover, people use their phones even though they don't have to do with the phones. I think it shows that people are addicted to smartphones. Therefore, we should try not to use thier phones at all times.

how cruel and careless are people towards animals and the environment?
We are all too busy with our own personal lives that we rarely think about it. There are so many environmental issues increasing day by day that humans make. Issues with endangered animal spieces are no exception.
For example we, us humans throw away countless of trash, garbage and all sorts of wastes into the ocean. That makes the ocean get highly polluted. Sea turtles mainly eat jellyfishes, and they start to eat plastic bags instead because they look like jellyfishes. So they die immediatly. Also humans hunt sea turtles for their meat and the beauty of their shells. Because of that sea turtles has now become one of the most endangered spieces. Especially the Leather back turtle which is the biggest sea turtle on planet, is about to get distinct within 10 years.
There are so many more issues such as hunting countless of sharks for sharks fins, destroying so many animal's habitats, illegal whale hunts, hunting elephants for their tusks and etc.
Even though there are many organizations and people that tries to help animals these days, I think we still lack awareness and support.
