  2. One man took 58 women’s pictures secretly, and he was sentenced to eight months in jail. However, the judgement of the court became a hot issue. In April and May, he took pictures secretly in several subway stations. He was caught while he was taking pictures of woman’s legs who wore short pants. Among fifty eight pictures, forty three pictures highlighted women’s legs, and fifteen pictures were just women’s entire bodies. The judge decided forty three pictures were illegal, but fifteen were not illegal. The judge decided that if people took pictures of certain parts of body, they were guilty. However, if people took pictures of the entire body rather than a certain part, they were innocent. After this judgement, some people argued that taking pictures secretly was a problem and it did not matter what part of the body was photographed.

    1. I agree that it violates people's portrait rights even though the entire body is taken. I think the sentence and penalty of this kind of crime is so light. That's why many people is not afraid of this crime and do it again after finishing their sentences. In addition, some men think that the women wears short pants or skirts for showing their bodies. It is so wrong and government should establish the strict law for this crime.

I think a judge sentenced that is idiot. As the man took fifteen pictures had an idea which is illegal, the judge had to sentence him harder than that. As this case happened, other similar cases which abuse the first case will be happen. So government has to hold a court again and fix that judgement.

    5. I heard some website shares their pictures that secretly taken. I think cyber police need to investigate this site
and find out them. They have to be judged by the law. It is hard to arrest all member of website but goverment should
care of them. Also when we find those websites, we have to report to cyber police.

    6. I agree with you guys! Some people’s trust in the judicial system has hit rock bottom, so dwindling credibility in the nation’s judicial system occurs. Punishment toward sex offender should be intensified to decrease sexual crime. Also, cyber police needs to investigate several harmful websites harder to catch sex offender.

    7. That judgement is the most stupid thing I read today. How can taking picture of someone's body secretly be legal? Besides, I also heard the hidden camera issue is a hot topic in the internet these days. Maybe some sexual perverts do not even understand that photographing or filming people secretly is a crime. They just spread it through the websites for fun. I am not sure the education about sexual crimes could be helpful.

The total number of firefighters who died while they are on duty between 2010 and 2014 was 33. However have you heard that the total number of firefighters who suicided was 35 during the same time? And even the suicide rate is constantly increasing among firefighters. Then why the suicide among the firefighters is not only evident but prevalent? The term "perceived burdensomeness" might explain this. It is the belief one is thinking that he or she is burden on others so that others would be better off if he or she were gone. Because firefighters make contributions to the society through firefighting, they may be protected from the perceived burdensomeness. But things are different when they are unable to work and contribute as with retirement, disability, or injury like these. He or she may see himself/herself as a burden because his or her most valuable avenue of contribution is suddenly gone. What is your opinion? Do you agree with this "perceived burdensomeness"?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The "perceived burdensomeness" can explain the suicide of elderly. The elderly establish the desire for suicide along with “thwarted belongingness” and the "perceived burdensomeness" because of the big change in career and social relationship in old age. That’s why they suffer from depression and a sense of alienation. So, I agree with this "perceived burdensomeness".

      Delete
    2. In my opinion, the government do not compensate firefighter enough compared to firefighters' duties. In reality, many firefighters buy new equipment out of their own money, because they do not have enough budgets. Also, their pension and wages are too low, so this is why "perceived burdensomeness" happened. If firefighters have enough money or pension to live with families and go to hospitals after retirement, they might not feel perceived burdensomeness.

      Delete
    3. “perceived burdensomeness” is wrong. My major is fire prevention of disasters engineering. I heard about this professor told about in class. I think they didn’t have to suicide. As they are in society, they have their right to be protected from something when they couldn’t their job. Therefore firefighters have to think again. Also government does from the teeth forward and has to devise proper welfares so as to stop suicide.

      Delete
    4. I think our government must take a profound interest in mental illness of firefighters like perceived burdensomeness. I heard the firefighter are very suffered from many illness mentally. But the worse thing is these all mental illness are connected to blame themselves and make them to suicide. Government should enhance to make them take the treatment for mental problem by force.

      Delete
    5. I heard about this from the news articles before. In my opinion, the lack of respect about the firefighters is the biggest problem. United States, for example, firefighters were treated like a hero and get a lot of respect from other people. However, in Korea, firefighters were treated as the people who just stop a fire. People take it for granted that firefighters stop a fire, because it's their job. I think these perceptions make them feel perceived burdensomeness.

    6. I’m so sad about this issue. In other countries, firefighters receive enough reward because they work at a boundary life of the death. Their job is saving human’s life and it’s same as doctor. I don’t know why the government doesn’t give enough welfare to the firefighters. And now, these days, the insufficient treatment to firefighters is issue. I hope the government to make a bill to improve the treatment of firefighters as soon as possible.

      Delete
    7. I also said about this issue. I think, compared to other countries, korean firefighters don't get proper treatment.
In korea, fire fighters suicide rate is really high. Because they didn't get any psychiatric from government. I thimk for their mental health, government must receive enough treatment.

  4. Have you caught a taxi in Gangnam at night? If so, you know that it is very hard to get a taxi in Gangnam, Seoul at specially Friday night. So, the government announced that they are going to run taxi happy zone. It allows the passengers to get a taxi without refusal at the designated six districts by the end of the year.

According to them, the problem, refusal of passengers, can be solved. They also mentioned that they regularly cracks down on refusal of passengers and gives subsidy to the taxi drivers. Also, it allows the sharing a cab for reduced fares. However, others already are concerned voices about neglecting the management of this system and the fare argument. In addition, sharing a cab can cause the crimes.

Now government is running this taxi happy zone by way of showing an example. As a result, there is no “the war of the catching taxies” at the Friday night so far. This plan will be operated by the end of this year. Use taxi happy zone and think deeply about this.

    1. Seoul city government tried hard to solve the refusal of passengers problems, but it did not solve very clearly. Taxi happy zone seems like another solution for the refusal of passengers. In my opinion, the refusal are happened because of taxi drivers. Even if the government are doing the happy zone, the refusal might happen again. To solve this problem, Seoul city government need to use different ways to which affect to drivers directly. For example, if taxi drivers refuse passengers, and passengers post on taxi company website, drivers get punished or something. I think happy zone might be another solution for the refusal of passengers, but not a strong solution.

    2. I think it's very good program. Some my friends told me they have hard time when they tried to took a taxi in Gangnam.
But with this program people can take a taxi easily than past. There will be some refusal of passengers, but this program continues, it will be disappeared by customers. Give some benefits to drivers like more fare receive by government, it will be better to settle this program well.

      Delete
    3. I had a experience of missing lots of taxis because of the taxi driver's refusal, so it would be graet if it will work properly. As you said it's really the 'war of the catching taxis' especially on friday night. But that situation is not limited to the fiday night. I think the government operate the taxi happy zone not only for the friday night but for the other chaotic situations too.

    4. In my opinion, Taxi happy zone is a very good program. I search some articles about the program, this program has a lot of effects like preventing cutting in line and no need for running into the roadway dangerously to get a taxi. The best thing of this is that both taxi driver and customer are very satisfied. Actually, the government operates this very well.

    5. I had have been a problem of getting a taxi in Gangnam station. It was like a hell. Many people were on the road to get a taxi. I barely got a taxi but it was really hard. I think happy zone is useful and government makes it well. But there are some problems of it. There is no perfect legal system. So we should find a way to solve this problem ourselves. Kakao taxi can help it. This system is if we turn on GPS in smart phone and send a message to taxi company, they let taxi driver who is near us to take us.

      Delete
    6. I think making a taxi happy zone is not a good idea. Do you know that the government has to pay money to the taxi drivers who use the taxi happy zone? And the money is from us! We are not saving our money by just using the taxi from the happy zone. Before the program, we pay more money to get the taxi by ourselves and now, the government pays more money by our tax. And then, the paying money to the taxi is same before and after. Nothing changed. Therefore, I don’t think this is not a helpful program to us.

      Delete
    7. It's true that catching a taxi in Gangnam at night. So, I think that taxi happy zone policy can be a solution for the refusal of passengers, However, it needs to manage and supervise all the taxi drivers in happy zone, because lots of taxi drivers will come to happy zone to earn more money. It will cause other problems. I think this policy has to be more supplied.

  5. All people work and pay for what they did. We can't deny that pay is the worth of their ability.
Like athletes, they earn their annual pay by their ability. They prove value of their pay by their fantastic performance.

But all people can experience a slump. We can undergo slump for a days or month. To overcome slump, we need time to recovery.
If we don't get enough time with overcome slump, we could lose our ability. Many athletes who undergo slump by injuries on match and they come back by force, they couldn't last their careers long.
We need to cheer up or help them, but I think the reality is too hard to this people. For the reason that they don't perform their work well, people attack or criticize them very deeply. For example, Heung-Min Son, who recently transferred to Tottenham Hotspurs Football club, criticize deeply by low performance on match. In his article reply, I couldn't find any cheering comment. However, I could easily find that criticized their families or him. Although their families weren't related to them, but people didn't mind it. They attacked them too.
These things don't help to overcome people who undergo with slump. We need help and cheer up them. Not to say we have to cheer all of poorly performed people. I want to say we have to be careful not to go too far.

    1. Of course, we need to cheer them up when their performance is very poor by mistake. But whenever they perform very poorly, do we need to cheer them up everytime? I'm sure they know how to control their mind when they perform poor, because they were trained already to set up their mind for doing performance! Cheering them up is very helpful for overcoming the slump but abusing the cheer is very bad for them to get used to doing perform poor.

I saw many slumps of him many times and some people scold him because he didn’t perform well. I felt sad many times to see him getting a lot of pressure. We should encourage them even if they made a mistake. Scolding is not giving good effects to athletes. They are human. Human can make a mistake and not perform well always. Please encourage athletes even though they don’t do well!

    4. There was tons of examples prove that criticizing people way too far can kill them mentally, or even physically. About cheering, I believe it would be good to cheer them as much as you can. Truly determined athletes would not be arrogant just with some cheers, because their mind will hold them tight. Too much criticizing is not like whipping a horse to run faster, but stabbing it to scream.

    5. I agree with cheering them up when they have a slump. In Korea, lots of people blame the atheletes who performed poorly. People just want them to make a perfect play. Even they are not a coach, they don't allow poor performances. I think we have to understand about their mistake and slump, because they are human, not machines. Humans cannot be perfect. Before we attack them, we need to think on their side.

Normal people also can be a target. Every people can go through a hard time. We can cheer them up not criticize. Even if someone commit a crime, we can criticize forever.

  6. This happens not only for athletes but also for celebrities. Some people get much pay rather than their ability and value but normally they develop their skill or performance to have competitive power then, they deserve their pay. I have no idea why people are attacking or criticizing them. As online community is developed, this case you mentioned is getting serious. We should think about commoners consciousness not to cause this case again.

  7. About a month ago, Seoul city declared new brand slogan of Seoul, ‘I.SEOUL.U’ after ‘Hi, Seoul’. They used 8 hundred million won to make this slogan. However, most of Korean and English doesn’t understand the word means. Seoul city said it means, ‘Your and my Seoul’. Most of English-speakers say it doesn’t make sense and have grammar mistakes to see the word as its meaning. Also, a survey company ‘Surveymonkey’ reported only 12% of English-speaking respondents like the new slogan ‘I.SEOUL.U’ more than the original slogan ‘Hi, Seoul’. Most of Korean think ‘Hi, Seoul’ is better than new one.
Not only people’s opinion, the new slogan has many problems to use. First of all, promoting a new slogan costs enormous money, efforts and time. Seoul city announced that they are going to use about 2billion won to promote ‘I.SEOUL.U’. Secondly, slogan has to have impact and attraction but the new slogan has no impact and hard to understand at once. Finally, Seoul city changed their slogan in 18 years. Some people worry about too quick changing because it doesn’t help establishing only Seoul city’s image. What do you think about the new Seoul city’s slogan, ‘I.SEOUL.U’?

    1. I heard that Hi Seoul slogan's subtitle is 'Soul of Asia'. So China argued that why Seoul is a Soul of Asia, they didn't permit to use when chinese people travelling at Seoul. Many chinese people are come to Seoul because of tour, so Seoul City need to make new slogan, that's I.SEOUL.YOU. At first, promote new things need money. I think it's enough for promote.
It is hard to accept new slogan at beginning, but after an interval of time, I think people can accept the slogan.

    2. I can't believe that Seoul city used 8 hundred million won to make the slogan, but one thing that was meaningful was Seoul citizens participated in the whole process from making to selecting the new slogan. I acknowledge that the slogan may not be going down so well at least on the initial impression because it makes no sense and it sounds really juvenile. But Seoul city tries to do their best about this problem, so it's time to wait and see what will the Seoul city bring as a countermeasure.

    3. Oh! I agree with Juhwan. Whatever the slogn is, we need to focus on the intention of government. I just impressed our government make an effort on letting the world know Korea through the slogan. So with this intention, it is very worth changing the slogan for getting connected with the world! Of course, at first time, many people couldn't get the meaning of ISEOULU. But i'm sure they will like the slogan "ISEOULU" when they know the meaning of it. Everything new is always hard to used to it. We need to cheer up the government for promoting slogan not blame.

However, with that slogan, people cannot understand what it means. When I first saw that slogan, I couldn't understand the meaning of it, too. I understand that making a slogan was necessary, but I think spending 8 hundred million won for making that slogan was wasting money and time.

    5. I am so against it! The problem is that people do not understand the meaning of it. In my opinion, we change the sligan very often. For example, the New York slogan "I love NY" has been used for a long time without changes. That's why people all around world know it regardless of generation. I think change of the slogan is a waste of our taxes. I think we should stick to one good slogan which should be easily understandable and use it for a long time then, it would be very effective to promote our country and cities.

For example they had many records of getting a bribe, money and power etc. Those issues were mentioned by mass media repeatedly. They invested a lot of money but they didn’t get a result which corresponds to it because money can’t be an answer. They have to think seriously to solve this problem.

  8. Have you heard that Subway Fare in Seoul may rise at the start of 2017? Seoul Metro and Urban Rail Public Corporation submitted the fare raise plan to the city hall of Seoul. This is because , with the Seoul Subway Line 1-8 operating agency like Seoul Metro’s debt, it is very difficult to cope without a rate increase. The amount of debt on last June is total 4.6483 trillion won and the worse thing is this debt is increasing by billions won every year for reasons such as free charge of older, disabled. There is no public financial support for the free charge of them and Seoul Metro is operating the subway at a loss. So they have no choice but to raise subway fare. Like this way, whenever their debt limit has been reached on the couch, they raise the fare. Actually, according to statistics, in 2000, the fare was 500won so that means the fare is more than doubled in recent 15 years.
What is your opinion about the rise? Do you think Subway Fare rise is accepted?

In fact, the fare is really cheaper than other countries. However, we can find the real problem why the debt is getting bigger from the seniors. I know they have a right to get preferences because they worked hard to develop the country and give offspring to live better. People live a long life and 60s are not that old in these days. The subway company has to raise the minimum ages to get the subway for free.

And Seoul metro ask to older than sixty five and younger than seventy people pay for using subway. But I think this fee can cheaper than a regular fee.

According to official statistics, in December there were 1455 cases between 18188 cases from 2013 to 2014. There are many problems about drink-driving such as a hit-and-run case, damage of human life or property damage etc. Furthermore there is an unusual case.

There is an article of the Road Traffic Act. It is called “Three strike out law”. It tells if person who had two records of driving under the influence of alcohol do drink-driving, person’s driver license will be cancelled. Because of drink-driving three times, the man who had revocation of his driver license filed a constitutional appeal. It was decided that it isn’t against the constitution by constitutional court recently. Constitutional court said purpose of this article is for protecting lives and property of people by cancelling a license. And public interests are bigger than disadvantage that one person who is in business of driving can’t driving.

Because to have a tattoos, it require anesthesia. So they need doctors. And they concerned about the problem of the safety of the tattoo ink and the problem of reusing of the needle. For these reasons, until now tattoo is illegal action. But recently, the majority of the tattoos were conducted without anesthesia and tattooists use disposable needles. So tattooist continuously claimed that they do not need doctors.

And also consider the tattoos as a fashion items. In the result tattooist became a legal job. When life is too stressful, there are a lot of things that can make your mind and body relaxed. Think about your favorite musics, dramas, movies, games or comic books.I believe that these things would be always on your side. Whenever you need a break time, you can take one of them and enjoy it. But how many times have you thought about the copyright? Did you paid for the musics you have in your smart phone or MP3 player? How about movies, or comic books? I guess almost everyone would have experienced the free downloading. Have you heard about the game called "White Day"? This game is famous for being a noticeable victim of the illegal copy. The maker of the game once failed to stay in the package game business because of that problem. After almost a decade later the maker returned and remade the game. But this time also, an illegal replica of it appeared. This kind of crime is spread everywhere in the cultural industry. We do not eat without paying a bill, do we? New child care centers catering to children under the age of 6 are now required to operate CCTV in areas where the children spend much of their time. Such areas include classrooms, playrooms and playgrounds.
CCTVs at child care centers serve two main purposes. First, it is thought that the surveillance video would deter and prevent child abuse. Second, videos can be used as evidence in reporting abuse to the authorities.
However, CCTV is not a fix-all solution to the problem of child abuse. It may deter abuses, but it does so by treating all caretakers and teachers as possible perpetrators. In fact, many workers at child care centers and rights argues that it violates the privacy of the workers. Hence the compromise that the CCTVs be limited to areas where children spend a lot of time. Another shortcoming of CCTV is that unless the screens are monitored in real time, an act of abuse in progress cannot be stopped. The experience with CCTV installed to prevent bulling in schools has been that without the resources to monitor the screens full time, CCTV has little value in stopping crime. Furthermore, school bullying just moved to areas where there was no CCTV.

And we do not really think that the normal restaurant with workers should not install CCTV because of workers' privacy. I feel the same way with the child care center.

In Korean traditions, people tended to have a fancy wedding for granted. Maybe the reason, in the past, people had no chance to eat delicious food fully, so it was a custom when someone get married, all of the village people went together to marriage couple’s house. But for bride and groom’s stance, it wasn’t pleasant thing, because of some guests they don’t know not at all. And cost of marriage also very expensive, too.
But now, people’s values are changed, many of them want to save money, throw out their empty formalities and vanity. So they don’t order ridiculously expensive rings. And family’s size gradually smaller, so they don’t have to invite a lot of families and it comes a cost reducing factor.

I totally agree about this change of marriage trend. If so, when I get married, I don’t have to prepare much of foods, beverages. And there are only close friends and families, I can leave us a better memories, in more comfortable mood.

    2. I think so too. I want to this small wedding trend as normal. In Korea, there are many fancy wedding ceremony. Marriage is not for wedding. We must think about after marriage. But nowadays the price of a home is getting more expensive, and the price level higher than ever. In order to people don’t feel a sense of incompatibility, wedding and marriage course must be simplified.

  16. Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day in the United States. The busiest shopping day of the year for a much longer period of time. The origin of black Friday is when the firm has a loss they kept account book using red ink while they got a surplus they use black ink to kept account. This is why the word black is used in Black Friday. If the price is low then the consumer's demand increases. Instead of accumulate the stock; the firm decides to sell at very low price. That's the how black Friday begins.
In the USA the distribution industry is doing stock management, so distribution margin is almost zero. But in Korea, distribution industry and manufacturing company are separated. So the distribution margin is way bigger than the USA. Distribution market is more elastic than the USA too. In Korea, it doesn’t have to sale every year.
This year, main department stores advertised so called Korean Black Friday. But the reality was different. Korean black Friday was not different from usual sale days. For example they only sale for five ~ ten percent. The word black Friday means big sale like 50~60percent. They deceive consumers using the word black Friday to make consumer to think such a big sale.
What do you think about Korean Black Friday? Does it really need for the Korean culture and consumers or not?

  18. Last week, four middle school students broke into the supermarket and stole money and items. After they arrested, they said that they broke into the supermarket and stole money because they didn't have enough money to go to internet cafe(PC방).
Today, the crime rate of teenagers is keep rising. Over the past four years, the number of teenagers who commit serious crimes such as murder, rape, robbery has reached over 10,000. What is the reason of increasing crime rate of teenagers? I think the legal punishment for teenagers is one of the major reason. According to teenager's law in Korea, a teenager under 14 years old is not a subject to a criminal penalty. They are just sent to the juvenile reformatory instead of going to jail or receiving a criminal penalty. The problem is teenagers are abusing this law. After the juvenile reformatory, they commit crimes again because the punishment is not that serious and they already know that they will not go to jail or receive a criminal penalty.
Now, people insist that the legal punishment for teenagers has to be changed. I totally agree with that. Some people saying that we have to overlook their behavior because they are young and their future have to be protected. If we overlook their behavior, their lives and future will go worse. Legal punishment for teenagers has to be more powerful.
What do you think about it? Do you agree with it?
