[This is a shorter version of my story. If you are interested in the detail, please read the post below this!]
I was writing an essay on superstitions and urban myths for my other class the other day, and I thought it would be fun to talk about them here. I am not really prone to superstitions, but when I was in the fourth grade, I had a near-death experience that is so mysterious and ineffable. My friend’s family and mine took a trip down to the East Sea during the summer vacation. We got there at night, so my friend and I decided to go swimming the next morning. It was pouring down in the morning, and it was supposed to be the fiercest rainstorm of the year. We snuck out of the hotel and went swimming in the ocean anyway. A sudden big wave snatched us apart from each other and from the shore.
We were drowning, but all of a sudden, I felt something clutching me by the ankle and with enormous force, it pushed me up and out of the water. Luckily I was able to hold onto something near the dock. As soon as my head made it out of the water, I saw my friend’s head pop out of the water almost at the same time. What was bizarre was that he thought I helped him out of the water, but I thought it was him who saved my life! We have never talked about this incident seriously. We would just joke that a mermaid or something saved our lives. This was one of the most inexplicable and mysterious experiences in my life. I do not know what or who saved me, and yet I am not sad that I cannot know either. I am just glad that a mystery happened to my life, and that I have a very interesting story to tell.
Hope it gave you goose bumps while reading. Please read the post below if you are interested in more about my story.

    2. Wow, I just got chilled! Your experience is a mystery for sure. I thought the one who pushed you out of the water was an angel. It sounds superstitious but I heard about a story that is similar to yours. I heard that story from a TV show "Surpirse." The man who was driving his car was crossing a railroad but something was wrong with his car. His car stopped in the middle of the railroad and there was a train coming toward his car. He thought his car would crash with the train and would die. He closed his eyes and was accepting his death. However, all of sudden his car moved out of the railroad. After the train passed, he came out of the car and looked around, but no person was around. He looked the back of his car and on the window there were hand prints that looked weirdly small like a baby's. So he thought that the person who pushed his car out of the railroad and saved his life might be an angel. This was true story! Reading your post, I thought of this story. (:

The full version of my story goes like this. My friend’s family and mine were really close, and we decided to go on a trip down to the East Sea. It was one of those days of the year that everybody was taking summer vacations and moving for trips. The sky was crystal clear, not even a hint of clouds, so we were excited to go swimming in the ocean. However, the traffic was terrible, so we got to the destination late at night. Since our parents would not let us go out, we decided to go to bed early and go swimming in the morning. What we did not know was that when we fell asleep, it started to drizzle outside.
We woke up the next morning and found out that it was pouring down. Apparently, it was supposed to be the fiercest rainstorm of the year. However, we figured nothing could stop us; after all, we were just a couple of restless and fearless teenagers. We snuck out of the hotel and started running down, and there it was. The ocean. We realized that there was nobody at the beach because of the rainstorm, but what we were clueless about at that time was that the water at the East Sea gets really deep after a few hops into the water. I felt my feet were in the air; they could not seem to find the bottom. While my feet were struggling for the ground, a sudden huge wave struck and parted us from the shore. We started drowning almost right away.
Somehow my head barely made it out of the surface, and I found my friend in a distance, trying to survive as I was. Another big wave snatched us deeper in the water. This time, I thought I was really dying. All my memories were flashing back to me. Then, all of a sudden, out of nowhere, something (or someone) grabbed me by the ankle and pushed me up with great force. I was whirling my arm around, and luckily I was able to hold onto some sort of a wooden prop for the dock near the beach. As soon as I realized I got lucked out of the near-death situation, my friend’s head popped out of the water. He said thanks for my help, still breathing heavily. It was weird because I thought it was him who saved my life.
My friend and I have never really talked about this thoroughly since that day. Whenever that topic came up, we would just joke as though a mermaid had saved our lives. We figured that it had to be something other than human beings because we know that there was nobody but us at the beach, and no one could have been in the water during the worst rainstorm of the year. No matter whatever or whoever saved my life, I do not want to know. I mean I cannot really know, but I just want to leave the whole thing as a mysterious and inexplicable experience.
I know this post got longer that I thought it would be, so I think I’m gonna post a shorter version of this. Hope it was worth reading. Feel free to ask follow-up questions or to speak your mind about my story.

    1. I'm replying to your post again...confirm icon is supposed to be where that sign out icon is..anyway, thanks for sharing your story Dave! I have enjoyed reading it. I thought it was your friend who grabbed and pushed you up from the water. I have similar experience like yours. This summer, I went on to the East Sea for vacation with my family. My brother and I jumped into the water as soon as we got there. We had great time but all of sudden, I couldn't keep myself steady. I felt like something was pulling me deep down into the water. My brother didn't notice that so I had to struggle all by myself. Somehow I got out of the water and wrote down what happened right away. Now there is a music piece for piano and performance about that day. It was unforgettable incident for sure.

At the middle of this month, terrorism was happened by the Islamic State (IS). It was terrible event and many people died at Paris. I was also sad for why these innocent people would have to die. After that time, French air force attacked the IS and European countries boundary line were reinforced by border guards. Because terrorists entering route was the same route for refugees. So every European countries refugee policy changed for this reason to accept them. I think they are right to refuse the refugees for their own country to protect latent terrorism. But also, European countries have responsibility to take the refugees because their interests were based on the development of IS. They quickly coped well for terrorism. However, terrorist knew that kind of situation and I think their purpose were not to get into refugees for other countries. Do you think this solution is right? I think this policy was sending people to their deaths. So they find something better policy to solve the problem both are benefit. For this case, every countries must be unite together for exterminate the terrorism, not only for profits their own country. No matter what they are doing something, innocent civilians should not be die anymore.

I also felt so sad about the situation happened in Paris. I think it’s a so nice subject to talk together. Well, you said that European countries’ policies are not right. But I think it’s the best way they can choose. Because I think government has the first responsibility to protect their own citizens. I’m not saying that refugees’ lives are not important. But I’m just saying that is the first duty to carry out.

    3. The tragedies are occurring continuously because the wrongs are not taking reponsibilities but doing nothing. The powers sell weapons and incite the fights while saying that the wars should be ended, the world needs peace superficially. I agree with you that the innocents like refugees have not done anything wrong to die from. I also agree with what Miso said that the government's prior responsibility is to protect their citizens. It is a hard task to solve out. All the lives are valuable. I just hope everyone remembers that.

It’s really sad situation and I feel sorry to victims and refused refugees. But I understand government’s policy. Their first mission is protecting nation and country. If my family were attacked by some strangers among the guests, then I would like to close the door cause I’m worried.
I think dealing with the IS terrorist is important thing because the change of the refugees policy is from the terror. And if we don’t take any actions, we can’t be sure these things will happen again.

Totally shocked when I heard the terrible attack and I still pray for the people in Paris. I understand the circumstances that the government decided. Accepting refugees after this unspeakable terror is sure not easy. At the same time, it’s hard to ignore this innocent people who lost their homes. I hope there would be another way to meet all this needs as soon as possible.

    6. Still am sorry and sad and also mad for those who has been sacrificed.
I believe that all conflicts can come to an end if they come to a mutual understandings and decide to forgive each other. If one starts attacking anther and they start attacking back for being attacked, it will go on and on forever until one group collapses.
However, I do realize that IS has no will to come to any agreement on whatsoever circumstances, and thus some governments are having hard time coming with the solutions to all problems derived from them. I understand how they're not the cause of those refugees and they have no reason for them to be forced to help them all, especially when there is a global depression of economy going on. If the economy gets worse. It will provoke another hate crimes or issues like all those incidents involving foreigners in Suwon, and who will take the responsibilities for it?
Every government has their rights to protect their country, and must not be blamed for not offering helps to those ‘dormant volcanos’. However, I still want to address the fact that some government are going way to protective. Candidate Trump recently came up with this brilliant Idea on banning all Muslims, and I believe that these radical solutions should be thought over carefully. I hope and pray for those in hardships, and for the peaceful and better world.

The first thanks giving in my life. This Thursday, june prepared great thanksgiving meal to us. It was the first time of my life who invited me to thanksgiving meal. It was very new experience to me. There were many foods that I haven’t eaten before. There were turkey, mashed potatoes, salad, pumpkin pie, soft drink etc. It was like buffet that june had prepared. The most delicious food that I ate is turkey with cranberry sauce. I only eat meat with salt or steak sauce. I have never seen cranberry sauce before. I was really surprised because cranberry sauce with turkey was delicious. It was kind of sweet and sour sauce that I usually can’t eat. And the desert was good too. The pumpkin pie was sweet and the topping cream was funny to play. I put topping cream on everyone’s pie.
It was great memory for our group and i really thanks to june’s survice for us. It was like volunteering for us. She even cooked and brought food to us. It was not easy thing to do. It was new and happy memory for us. And it was great opportunity that can learn about America’s classic holiday. We usually don’t have a chance to have a meal together. So I was very glad that we did that. I am going to graduate next year, but I hope you do thanks giving meal every year.

    1. "It was like buffet that June had prepared." Right! It was the greatest buffet in the whole world!!! I also have never seen or eaten cranberry sauce before. At first I thought it is absolutely weird to eat meat with any fruit sauce, but when I tried that combination last Thursday, I really loved cranberry sauce with turkey meat. Turkey tastes kind of salty and the sauce was sweet, so those two taste great. Salty food with sweet sauce is always great. It's like sweet potato with Dong chi mi or Kimchi! Anyway, I really enjoyed our Thanksgiving party. After you left early, one guy from other class(unfortunately I don't know his name) and Lary(June's friend) played guitar and sang for us. We were humming together. The songs were beautiful and the snowy weather matched with our party mood perfectly. The only thing missing for the party was the candles but everything else was perfect. I thank June a million time for preparing such a great party for us! ♡

Not only appearancel but also taste is gorgeous. Also snow and music make party more atmospheric. I felt like eating in the foreign countries. I really have thank to June for making me this fantastic memory.

It was, indeed, a great experience. Before I comment on this, I would like to thank June for preparing all the thanksgiving stuff. I never imagined that I would have a thanksgiving meal at school, ever. But it did happen! haha. Also, the food was fantastic, super delicious. All this almost made me wish that I weren't done with Speaking Practice classes :( ... this thanksgiving experience in class will remain as one of my favorite memories of uni life.

    5. I wish I could have joined! I was really looking forward to it because I have never experienced classic Thanksgiving meal before and I really wanted to taste June's mashed potatoes! Maybe next time I'll have a chance :). Like June said it was a really bad day to have a migrane :(

    7. Haha, it was a joyful meal in every aspect. Wonderful meals with wonderful people, especially the gravies were just superb! But one sad thing is that you weren’t there when we had jelly. I brought some ones with fillings in it because you wanted them but you were gone after I came back from the café. Anyway, it was such a great time. Hope we could have some kind of gathering again someday and somehow.

  10. “Trip to my childhood”

If I could travel time, I want to have a trip to my childhood. When I was in elementary school, which was from 1999 to 2004, everything was simpler than now. There was no such thing as smartphones, laptop computers and other electronic devices that are common in present days. Now I cannot imagine live a day or even few hours without my cell phone, but when I was young, I had much more fun than now without a cell phone or a computer. As soon as the school was over, I gathered a group of friends and went to the playground. Our favorite spot on the playground was the top of the slide. We all went up there and played our favorite game called "ok sang tal chul." (everyone might know this game) Or when I did not go to the playground, I hung out with friends from my neighborhood. I rode roller skate or bicycle with them till my mom or grandma stick their heads out of the window and called my name to eat dinner. Then I went home and spent the evening with my family. We talked about how was our days together. Likewise, my childhood is not special but rather simple. However it is certainly the most precious part of my life because I was truly happy every single day. I was a happy little girl but time flew like an arrow, and I am all grown up now. I have been away from my city and family for about 7 years to attend a high school and a college. As a grown-up, I have certain responsibility. Sometimes, responsibilities to do great in every relationships, to do best on my studying and to get a job feels heavy for me. Every time I want to escape from my responsibilities, I dream about packing my bag and having a quick trip to my childhood when everything was simpler. Just thinking about it makes me happy.

    1. I thought I wrote this post. XD But I used to play 땅따먹기 at my playground. I liked to play 말뚝박기 too at school. And if we caught playing 말뚝박기, we had to go to teacher's office. I got scolding from homeroom teacher but it didn't matter. My friends were there for me. Back then, every tiny little thing made my happy. I really misses my childhood.

When I think back to the old days, it’s so amazing. I mean at that moment, we don’t have cell phones or any other things to communicate but when classes over everyone came out and played together. We didn’t have to call just everyone noticed we will hang out together.
My sight is kind of different from yours but one thing I want to talk about is inefficient communication. Nowadays we have so many materials to communicate like smart phones furthermore IoT things. But our communications are not going around efficiently. You know, as we grown up, we don’t talk much with our family and we sometimes spend more time on smart phone even if we meet our friends. I think this is why we miss the past a lot and also want to leave from this routine and have a short vacation without any stress.

ah... the playground memories.. I remember those! back in elememtary school, nobody even knew each other's home phone numbers. But when I just wanted to play at the school's playground, I went there and the funny thing is everybody was just there too! now that I think about it, it is kinda weird cuz nobody really set a certain time to meet. I, too, really wish I could go back in time to find out about how we did that and everything :)

    4. For me, when I was young, playing in the playground and going around the streets riding bicycles and roller blades were the most important things to do! I would wait for school to end and rush back home to put my bag down and just go back outside to play. These days young kids have no time to play. They are all busy going to academies and study. My 10 year old cousin once told me that she will soon die because of all the academic stress she is getting. When I heard her schedule it was really shocking. I'm afraid that kids won't have any good memories of childhood when they grow up.

Wow, it reminds me of missing the days back in elementary school. Even if we didn’t say or make a promise to meet at parking lot, my friends and I were on exact time and place together. With roller blades on, we were rushing around the parking lot and playground. It was really fun and I sometimes think that ‘What kind of memories do these days kids have?’. It will be definitely different!

I think you need to grow up. You should face the reality instead of thinking about the happy past memory. It could be difficult to live in thesedays however we need to break throught the hardship. When you break the all the hardship you won't need a time travel to back to your childhood. Anyway you need to focus on the reality and get strong with your mind. You can do it!!!

  11. How often do you drink soda? There is bad news for people who live in Seoul and like to drink soda. Seoul City is planning to remove soda from the vending machines in public buildings because of health concerns. The Seoul Metro said that soda contains a lot of sugar, so they are going to restrict soda sales for citizens' health. And they are also going to put up warning signs about the hazards of drinking soda. Many people including me are opposed to this.
As everyone knows, reducing the intake of soda is better for our health. However, removing soda from vending machines is not the best way to reduce peoples’ intake of soda. People who really love soda will still continue to drink it. They will buy soda from the market or the convenient store and drink it eventually even though they can't buy it from the vending machine.
Also, Seoul City is planning to regulate the consumption of soda without conducting research on how soda affects citizens’ health. Seoul city is only using evidence which is warning from the World Health Organization. It's an insufficient evidence to do quite a big project. I also heard that orange juice has more sugar than soda. Removing only soda is unfair and not logical.
The effort of Seoul city to protect citizens' health is worthy and commendable. However, hasty policy will be not effective and just make people resistant. In my opinion, Seoul City should reconsider this project’s pros and cons before doing it.

This is absurd. The government trying to limit our choices and rights makes me realize that we are living in a totalitarian world. Korea itself is already a very conservative country. they are always trying to eliminate left side opinions. I won't really get into politics, but this is just ridiculous. getting rid of the choices we have rights to make is not what a republic country is about.

This is about movie "flipped" and it contains no spoiler.
I like to watch same movies several times with time interval. Because I can get another feeling as I get older. This movie "flipped" is one of my favorites. It's a story of a one girl and a one boy growing up together. I know it sounds boring. But trust me, it's amazing. At first, I focused on heroine's love story. As I got older I could see other deeper meaning which the movie really tried to say. Juli(heroin) and Bryce(hero) are different in many ways. Their family mood are completely opposite too. Juli's parent showed up in Juli's bed after they yell at each other. They raise Juli with love. And she became aan adorable girl. But Bruce's parents especially dad, he raised bryce with yelling and speak in a commanding tone. The message is a classic american family value. But I love the way they describe it. Image beauty is also nice. They filmed many sunsets and sunrise. It's gorgeous. At least you are not going to regret if you watch this movie "flipped".

Why do you study? Why do you go to university? To get a job? To make more money than people who don't go to the university? Someone asked me why I study and work so hard at the same time. Yes, I do study hard. That made me to win a scholarship. And yes, I do work hard as an arranger, composer, and tutor too. That made me to enter the bigger world. I got a chance to work as an intern in Germany. But these benefits I get are just incidental stuffs. These are not the reason why I study and work so hard. I just do because I love the fact and the feeling of learning new things. That's why I study. Think about the fact that you get to know something new. Literally, know. How awesome is that?

What are they for? I asked those questions to myself. My answers: I like to test and see my potentials through studying and working. I like to see if I am the person who can cope with planning time and focus on studying in a limited time. I also like to test my potential to deal relationships with customers, boss, and co-workers at work. If my potentials meet my expectation, I would be happy and if not, I would be challenged to try other areas. This is why I study and work so hard. I have not deeply thought about those questions, but thanks to your post I have gotten some answers!

I also think people work hard because of their own purpose. I mean they have their own reason of struggling in their life.
In my case, the reason why I'm working hard it's similar as yours, I feel I'm alive when I work on something and do something. That's why I'm always being busy and setting up new works and other stuffs. Other people think I look tired and I'm doing too many things but that's the way I live. Well it might be determined by where I was born and grown up. Life is always competitive in Korea, I need to survive somehow and to have some competitiveness. So I'm not sure but it could be one of the reason why I'm struggling in this routine.

I hate to study by letters. Actually I still don't get the real purpose of being a university student. I am university student but I always feel uncomfortable to spent lots of money on tuition. I think the real of study is from the outside of the school, home, and university. 20's needs to get diverse of experience for what they want to be. It is better to learn from the world than read from book.

Why women crave more sweets than men?

When it comes to diet, it’s still harder for women than men to losing weight. Additionally, we all know that women have another available space for desserts after the meal. I believe that it’s because of sugar craving. I’ve always wondered the reasons why women indulge in sweets more than men. I did some research and found out interesting facts about this question. For biological reason, women’s body tends to maintain a certain percentage of body fat in order to sustain a pregnancy and keep the menstrual cycle in action. Moreover, some studies reported that higher levels of estrogen in the body bring about higher craving for sweets. On top of that, most women have low levels of neurotransmitters like serotonin which known as happiness hormone. To balance the mood, it requires sugary foods that can produce these transmitters which women are lack of. Therefore, based on these scientific researches, it looks like that sweets craving for women is fundamental reason. So from now on, whenever some guys frown upon you and doubt about having desserts, don’t hesitate to say! “Hey, Because of the biological difference, we have no choice but to consume the sweets.”

My research was based on these articles

    1. Wow FDA! Actually I knew about women's craving for sweets but I didn't really know why. Sometimes I don't feel like eating proper meal. So I usually eat boxes of sweets and chips. But after I eat all of it, I felt depressed. What a greedy person! But it was natural thing anyway. Now I can eat more sweets without feel guilty. Thabk you for more fats FDA!

    2. Actually I haven't ever thought about the reason that women like sweet things more than men. I just accepted that reason. And I didn't know that women have low levels of happiness hormone. So your post is very interesting and useful to me.Thank you for sharing your knowledge. From now on, if my brother scold me eating sweet things, I will explain to him.

    3. For all these years I just thought that I just liked sweets. Now I can explain to my parents why I eat so much sweets! I used to eat sugar with a spoon. When I start to eat sweets I just can't stop!

I think it is a cowardly justification for women. It doesn't make a sense which is biological difference. It's just women are not patience like opening pandora box. Just have the desert and don't make any excuses. I think is not that bad thing to get weight. It is biological and this is the real of biological things. So don't cry for getting calories.

    5. HAHA MATT saying "cowardly justification" got me laughing. Anyway, I also believe that women’s do actually have cravings for sweets, and definitely more than how men’s do. but I also do doubt the results of the research. I am skeptic on most of the biological researches that has been done. Little do we know about humans, like why and how homosexuals become homo-sexual, or why do some people come out with rare abilities or diseases like servant syndrome. It may seem how I don’t believe on researches and yet agree to what their saying. But to think about my sisters, I can never not be too convinced to the fact that women’s crave for sweets more than men’s. :)

Do you think the criminals and their artworks can be accepted?

Roman Polanski, one of the famous movie director, is wanted man in U.S.. In 1978, this French guy drugged and sexually abused 13 year old girl. He was afraid of being under arrested, so he escaped to Europe and continued his work. In 2002, he filmed ‘Pianist’ that became one of the well-made movie and 53wins in awards. Also he won Oscar for ‘Best Director’. Even he is a criminal and didn’t serve his sentence, he still has many fans and celebs who love and support his works.

I think, the criminal and his or her artworks are not separated. And I agree that arts reflect artist’s faith and philosophy. I know that people loved and valued some of the world famous or well-known writings, paintings and songs that made from the artist who committed the crime. But I’m not sure we should boycott and refuse those things under the name of criminals’ or not.

Some says supporting criminal’s artworks is as same as advocating crime that he or she made. And the other says, the crime of artist is separated from the artworks. He or she must be a criminal, but we can’t ignore one’s ability. Also artworks can be one of rehabilitation.

This is quite controversy topic in Korea too. Some celebs who did drug, fraud and drunk driving are still on TV with their new songs and shows. So what do you think?

I do agree with you on this, Lucy. Being popular does not justify the acts of crime even though the person is gifted in any ways. But the sad reality is that the rich gets richer, the poor get poorer. And also the rich and popular people know how to get away with thing they want to avoid. What I'm most worried about is that our younger generation is learning this without really knowing what's wrong about this. Korea is a super conservative country. If we are not doing anything about this, this bad situation is bound to be worse.

In my opinion, it became an issue because he was a movie director so everyone could notice him and he didn't get punished even though he was famous and people were keeping an eye on him.
If he got punished it wouldn't be a big deal. I mean everyone can get another chance to comeback to society after commiting crimes. But he didn't sevrve his sentence as you said.
So I think we need to weed out people who don't serve his/her sentence after commiting a sin. And we need to punish them harder when people are public figures.

    3. 정성환(Bill 201133007)
I think people have prejudice for celebrities. Celebrities have lots of people attentions so when they did wrong things it became an issue very easliy. I don't think that guy was innocent, but people should be treat same position between celbrity and normal person.

      Delete
    4. In this case, the artwork and the artist shoule be considered seperately. The art itself should not be and can not be regarded as a crime. The artist, however, who committed a crime, is a totally different story. The criminals are criminals before being an artist. Just like what Dave said, no one should be justified with one's acts of crime only with his or her popularity. This is the problem that we should focus on the individuals without their other conditions. It has nothing to do with the popularity, the art, or any other thing. Only with the fact that one has committed a crime. That's it.

      Delete
    5. Everyone will have differnt perspective on this issue but I think no one should be set free to do whatever they want, when they are found guilty for a crime which has done any kind of harm to any others. Ideally the value of the artwork, should really be separated from what the artist has done, but I also agree to the statement that you wrote where it goes; arts reflect artist’s faith and philosophy. Energies and messages of the artist passes on through their artwork, and I would rather have them not influencing me. After all, art work is not a mandatory for human life or the community, but the abidance of laws are. Life without art, will be like a vast dessert, but life without any abidance.. well, will be chaotic. Every human in a society should hold some kind of responsibility.

  17. It really confusing to me. I can not agree or disagree. I just think it's different case by case. IU didn't committed any crime but fans and listeners were outraged about her song. (She released her album and one of her song got into trouble about lolita.) I think it's not thr matter of crime itself but how strong influence he or she has towards people.

What do you think about studying abroad at a young age? Do you think it’s helpful to improve language skill? Or it’s not effective to improve language skill? I think young kids who’s under middle school age are not efficient to study other languages. They are poor in vocabulary even in Korean. So they are easy to caught in simple word and sentence structure.
One of the reasons why studying abroad is to speak more than two languages to have better position when they enter university or get a job. But it can make them loose their native language.
There are pros and cons learning second language at a young age. First of all, it won’t take that long time to get used to speak in second language because they are much more flexible than older people. And our learning condition is learning by rote so it can impede creativity and independence. On the other hand, it can make them lost their first language and spoil kids because they are not in their parents’ control. Also if they don’t have enough competitiveness they will lost their position and get lost in society. From a research, following the HR managers from companies they don’t really think studying abroad at a young age guarantee their skills except just language. So it won’t be a that much of merit for them.

For these reasons, I will not send my kids to other countries to study other languages. Young age is not appropriate to learn other language and culture. So, what you think?

    1. I agree that sending kids abroad at a young age just to study other language is not effective. I went to the States when I was 9 and stayed there until 13. After staying there about four years, I forgot lots of Korean and when I came back to Korea, I could not follow in school. I was running behind in every Korean speaking subjects and had really hard time to catch up in school. So I don't think going abroad at a young age is good.

    2. I agree with you mi-so. Because I watched news in internet and they said it is not good. For going abroad at early age people usually think about the positive way, for instance, speaking bilingual things. But according to researchers, speaks bilingual in early age, in can be not good at both language. For children and for parants, I think it is not good to go abroad in early age.

Especially in Korea, there is no doubt that most parents want their children to study abroad in early ages. I sure do understand their passion about their children to have the best education, but I don’t think it’s essential. I believe that there might be some side effects as Miso suggested on her statements.

  19. Love of Gimjang(김장)

Every year at this time of the year, my mom makes Kimchi. Gimjang is like preparing for winter because in the old times, there weren't enough vegetables to go through the winter. So this year I decided to help my mom. Our family eats lots of Kimchi throughout the year, so she makes lots of them. This year, she ordered 100kg cabbage which is about 60 cabbages. I helped her buy vegetables such as garlic and ginger at Suwon, and went to Incheon to buy some shrimps that go in the Kimchi. I never knew she was going so far and spending so much time to prepare for Gimjang. I felt sorry for her after thinking that all the years she has been doing this alone.
So it was a very meaningful time helping her this year. While preparing for it we had some great mother and daughter time. Since I got older it’s been a long time spending time with just me and her. Through this year's Gimjang I got to feel the love and sacrifice she gives to our family and that I should be by her when she needs me!
She never says it out loud, but her love is all in her food. She always tries to give the best to us.

I felt same thing as you! Last year my mom and I went to grandmother’s house to do Gimjang. Like your mom did, my grandmother prepared everything before we arrived. So we started to make kimchi. At that time it rained! We chose to bring vegetables and stuffs under the roof top and finished making it. And then I was impressed that grandmother’s back was all wet. I was so thankful for her dedication and love. Therefore I think Gimjang kimchi is love.

    2. Mother and daughter time! How sweet is that! It is always great thing to have, right? I am very surprised about the 100kg of cabbages that your mom bought for Gimjang. I used to do Gimjang with my mom every year until 2013 but never over 30kg of cabbages. My mom and I haven't done it for 2 years since we are so busy with one's own studies and works. Well, your mom is an admirable woman for sure. I hope you have mom and daughter time more often not just when you are doing Gimjang. :)

    3. YOU MUST HAD A WONDERFUL TIME WITH YOUR MOTHER. ACTUALLY I ENVY YOU BECAUSE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE A TIME FOR MAKING KIMCHI. MY MOTHER NEVER MAKES KIMCHI INSTEAD SHE GETS FROM MY AUNT. I REALLY WANT TO HAVE EXPERIENCE HOW TO MAKE KIMCHI NOT JUST SPENDING TIME TO HAVE A KIMCHI.

I love watching movies so l go to the movies on a regular basis to deal with my stress. It is not easy to find the method to release themselves stress however my one is the watching movies. I usallly go to 청담 CGV to watch movies with my friends and even by myself when they are busy. The reason why i like to go there is because it has a good sound system and since it is a bit more expensive than other theatres, not many students go there witch means that i can enjoy the movies more peacefully. Before watching the movies, i usually grab a bite to eat and drink like popcorn and orange ade. Also, l make sure to sue the toilet so that i don't distract others from concerntrating during the movies. I really like watching movies because as i said, it helps me deal with my stress and i think it is a good hobby to have. I cannot wait to watch 백호 which will be released movie next week with a finn. This story is irrelevant to what we are talking about but I just want to tell you that a finn girl is finished and now we are just friend now. So this comment will give you the answer to curiosity. Anyway MERRY CHRISTMAS! AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  23. “Thank you for the wonderful semester”

I wasn’t really sure what to write about because I wasn’t really at class when the assignment was given (or maybe I am just not smart enough to remember it). And I couldn’t really find the common topics of these posts, so I am guessing we are writing about whatever we want to.
As I was thinking about what to write about, I came up with this urge to thank and wish the best luck to each and every one of you, no matter whatever you may do or wherever you may go. This class was the only class that actually enjoyed during this semester; although I missed and was late for LOTS AND LOTS of classes. I think I’d remember this class for a long time for the fun times we’ve had, like the class in 진동, and the thanksgiving celebrations we had. And all these were truly enjoyable because of each and every one of you! Although I think not many will see this post because I'm super late (as usual)I still want to say again; Thank you all for the wonderful times! Hope to see you all around.
