  2. Recently, there is a hot issue in Korea. It is government designated Korean history text book. Government designated text book is system that is state designate one text book to use every school. I oppose this system.
First, purpose of designation is suspicious. The group which are support designated text book are almost extreme rightists. Their some support opinions are opposed to constitution. For example they argue that Korea founded is 1948. But constitution said Korea succeed provisional government. Their opinion makes me think that the purpose of designation is political.
Second, the process of making is mess. Members who apply to writer of text book are nondisclosure and writers of textbook are nondisclosure too. It affect to textbook’s reliability. Also, there are many fake signature which agree designated textbook. It also affect to textbook’s reliability. Many history professor opposed to designated textbook and do not cooperate to make it. It affect textbook’s reality.
Finally, designated textbook is harmful to diversity. This is most reason that I opposed to textbook. Without some underdeveloped country like North Korea, almost every advanced country don’t use designated textbook. Because it can harmful to diversity. Designated textbook has a possibility to make student think one way. It will be bad to discuss with other people who think differently. And it will harmful to democracy system which is needed discussion and communication. So I opposed to designated text book.

I read an interesting article on NYT. It criticized South Korea’s government designated history textbook strongly. I think this issue is a big shame in global society. If you haven’t read it yet, you better read. You would agree with this article. Here is the article’s URL. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/14/opinion/politicians-and-textbooks.html?_r=1

    2. I read that article. It was very interesting to me. And i agree with you. This issue is a big shame in global society. I also very worried about this situation. In advanced country, designated textbook is nonsense. So, have designated textbook can show our society as nonsense. It has possibility that make our country isolated. NYT worried and criticized Korea government designated history textbook. But in my view, government don't care about this.

    3. I think it is very serious problem. And I am neutral to this problem. Because, Some people think that we have to change our history about the part of President’s of Park. But others don’t want to change the history the part of President’s of Park. So, I don’t want to think this problem. And, this problem will last for years. And I think it is very sensitive to us.

  4. Why is Starbucks famous in Korea ?

Few years ago, Franchise coffee shop is the hot issue in Korea. Many people are interested in coffee at that time. Many Franchise coffee shop appear like Tom and Tom’s, Ediya and Starbucks. Now Starbucks is the best popular coffee shop in Korea. They have lots of customers who are loyal.
I think their advertising and marketing strategies are very powerful particularly warm marketing through SNS. They post not only their food and beverages but also inducing customers to spread their’s. It makes Starbucks popular.
Another reason is the taste of the coffee. Many people are addicted to Starbucks coffee. They said that Starbucks coffee’s taste is deeper than other brand’s coffee. Starbucks uses special coffee bean which is produced by certain area . The most important thing is the roasting. They show several roasting coffee and these coffee beans are gaining popularity.
Above all, this is the Starbucks’s success factors. Now I have a question to discuss. Why don’t many coffee brands surpass Starbucks?
    Please comment your opinions.

I’m not a big coffee fan, but I admit that that Starbucks’ coffee has a distinctive strong flavor compared to other coffee brand. I think Starbucks is so popular because they don’t taste so bad. If I had same money, I would go to Starbucks not Cafebene or Angeliunus. At least, Starbucks don’t taste like rotten water.

Well.. Actually I'm one of Starbucks 's 'gold member'. I think Starbucks is very good at managing their customers. They run their own customer rewards system and it makes customer can't give up their rewards. Also nowadays starbucks is not just coffee shop, they are one big brand. They sell their own designed stuff like mugs, tumblers, and they also collaborate with another famous brands like 'Annasui', 'Alice + olivia'. I think brand image is very important and Starbucks change their brand image from just coffee shop to one big brand and it is very successful. If other coffee brands want to surpass Starbucks, they should make their own identity and service.

I usually go to other franchise coffee shops. But I already know Starbucks is very popular all over the world.Recently Starbucks launched the new service. making an order smartphone (Siren order)is sensational marketing. I think these kind of their one step ahead marketing keep Starbucks success. So if other franchise coffee shops want to surpass the Starbucks, They should more invest on smartphone market.

As a student with light pockets, I try not to spend too much on beverages include coffee. However, I am also the person who prefers Starbucks rather than other coffee shops. The reason why I prefer Starbucks is because of its cozy atmosphere. I didn't know the exact reason why I feel more comfortable at Starbucks compare to other coffee shops. However, I found the reason after I heard that Starbucks works really hard on their interior design to make comfortable atmosphere. They also hire many specialists for selecting the music which is played at Starbucks. I think the Starbucks' own atmosphere is their another strength.

    5. Well, I rarely go to cafe and i don't care about its brand. The reason that i don't care about brand is simple. I can't distinguish difference of coffee brand. But i know that Starbucks has a lot of fan and they really like Starbucks not like me. In my view, the reason they like Starbucks is they like the image of Starbucks. Starbucks has some atmosphere that contain comfortable and relax. I think it come from its interior and its position. I read some article that explain Starbucks manage strategy. When Starbucks decide to open new cafe, they search position very carefully. Because it is very important to their brand name. I think that's why Starbucks has a lot of fan.

    6. I am a coffee lover, but I don't use my money often for a cup of coffee. I usually buy coffee when I'm with a friend or have assignments, and I try not to go to franchise cafes but individual small cafes. Actually I don't know why Starbucks is popular. To me, the taste isn't better than any other franchise cafes. However I admit that it's marketing skill is good because the brand had decades to practice cafe marketing around the world. So I think for other franchise cafes to get bigger like Starbucks, they need time.

      Delete
    7. I usually drink Americano. And, I like Americano best and drink more than twice a week. So, I compare Starbuck’s Americano with Tom and Tom’s Americano. I feel deeper taste in Starbuck’s Americano more than Tom and Tom’s Americano. Therefore, I think that people like Starbuck’s café more than any other café.

    8. I'm not a Starbucks fan but I know that there are many Starbucks mania. One of my friend really likes that brand but what a surprising is that she doesn't enjoy drinking coffee. She just like the brand as a tumbler collector. It has various merchandise(tumblers/mugs/ etc.) designs and it produces seasonal limited items continuously. Those design images can be easily spread on the SNS or blogs and ultimately it can raise it's profile. Though the brands is popular with their savory taste I think the merchandise marketing also has the big part on its sales and popularity having diverse fans who drinks coffee or not alike.

    9. I actually go to Starbucks a lot, and I think the reason why Starbucks is so popular is because the partners(workers of Starbucks are called that way) are so kind and friendly that they even make a new cup of coffee for customers when they spill it by their faults. Also, there's a large variety of choice for beverages and we can cumstom them as we want by changing the normal milk to low-fat milk, soy milk, or adding some extra shots, drizzles, java chips, etc. Having promotions or events regularly could also be the reason why so many people love Starbucks.

    11. haha i am also 'gold member' at Starbucks and agree with Karl and 보란's opinion. You know what Starbucks is so addictive and partners are really nice they treat customers like princess seriously!! Starbucks has a 'rewards system that' if you get a 12 stars you can get one free drink coupon. Moreover, if you are memebr of Starbucks you can get 'free extra' (of course it is free) such as whipping cream ,drizzle and extra shot. Besides, every season Starbucks lauch a new product and cards. I don't really go to other coffee shops so no idea what kind of marketing they are doing but they should do something can fascinate customer’s taste. -Jen-

    12. Thanks for all of you guys . Many people mentioned the Starbucks marketing . I agree. Reward system is effective to make customer loyal. Furthermore they use this marketing system very smart. And some people said that many customer enjoyed not only coffee but also the brand.
These day, Brand is very powerful for all of the product. Starbucks brand make people proud who are using Starbucks.

Just like you, I really wonder that Starbucks franchise coffee shop usually has a lot of customers. I think that Starbucks may be popular not only for their coffee taste, but also for their business style. Especially, Starbucks logo is well known in Korea. Starbucks uses a mermaid in the middle of its design. we can easily find other product's logo that is too similar to its logo. Then... I don't come up with other reason why Starbucks is popular any more. In my case, since I can't taste the difference between franchise brand's coffee, I prefer to take a coffee in cheap shops such as Ediya.

  7. In class we talked about human organ 3D printing and human cloning. I think these two are related closely when viewing in an ethical perspective. I've watched the movie 'Island', and I think it's a good movie to explain why I disagree with human cloning.
In 'Island,' a company makes human clones and put them in a district area, deceiving the clones that they are regular humans and they are being protected from the Earth's contamination. By pull, few of the clones were selected to go out to the "island."(which was actually death but none of the clones knew) But one day two clones escaped from the district area and found out that they were actually clones. The shock they've encountered was huge enough to make them think why they are living. This movie taught me that it's not right to make clones for human organ replacement because clones are also human who have feelings. If human organ 3D printing were more developed and so organ replacement were available, there would be no reason to make human clones. Because the idea of making human clones were to replace organs in the first place. So I think the idea of human cloning is cruel.
On the other hand, if human organ 3D printing were available I believe it would still remain high-price. If the price of buying 3D printed organs is high, only the rich would get organs and live longer life, which would be seriously unfair.

I totally agree with your idea. When people think about the human cloning, it's easy to look only at the bright side. If people with serious disease can be cured by human cloning, what about the people who should live as clones? Since they are perfectly copied with human beings, I think they also have rights as human beings. They should not be treated as organ storage. Anyway I was pretty impressed by your explanation of the movie 'Island'. It sounds really interesting and I think it will give me a good chance to think about human cloning issue again. I will put it on my movie list :)

    3. (Alicia) Movie 'Island' is really good movie. I saw human's selfish side through the movie. I still can't forget the scenes taking life, baby, hope away from clones. If human cloning start in the future, it also be opportunity for just rich. Like organ transplant nowadays. I hope organ 3D printing will be made affordable then give chance to many people to live long and healthy.

    4. I also disagree with the human cloning same as your opinion. If actual clones are made, they can not only breathe like real humans, but also they could think the same way as we do. They will have senses, thoughts, and intellects just like us. To use them as our organ replacement could cause a very serious moral issues because that situation is so much like killing innocent people for someone elses.

  9. I want to write about “Do we have to go to University?. In my opinion, I think we have to go to University. There are two reasons about why we have to go to University.
First, We can make our value high in University. We can make our value high for learning about our major (My major is electronic engineering). There are two reasons about learning our major. First, you can do anything you want to do. If you learn about your major, you will learn about anything related you want to do. Second, Some people want to learn our major for doing anything they want to do. But others are interested in their major. For example, many humanities departments student want to learn about history, philosophy and so on. They want to learn deeply about their major. So, we can know that we can make our value high in University.
Second, We can enter a big company like SAMSUNG. When we enter a big company, we can earn much money. And when you don’t go University, you can’t go to SAMSUNG. Because many big companies want to University students, not high school students.
Therefore, we have to go University for these reasons. What do you think? And what is your opinion?

    2. In my opinion, I think we have to go to univ. There are several reasons to support my opinion. At first,we can learn deeply about our major. It may be connected with our job in the future.More over, we can learn human relationships while studying university. We live in the social groups and no one can live alone So I think it is essential for our life

    3. In my opinion, If someone has goal want to achieve very strong and it is not necessary to go to university to get a goal, It is not necessary to go to university. I know that go to university has a lot of advantage and there are many things that university can provide. But there are many things that university can't provide too. For example university can't teach real business work. It just can provide indirect experience. So if someone want to learn real experience and it is more helpful to achieve goal, university is not necessary.

    4. I think going to university depends on individuals. Currently Korea has the highest university entrance rate in the world, and that means that there is a silent knowledge that everyone have to go to university unless he/she has no money. It also means that you will be painful and poor if you don't go to university. As you said, if one graduates university he/she has a higher chance to gain higher social-economic status during life. That is the original purpose of university. I wish Korea will gradually make balance to this problem.

    7. I agree with 지나 that it depends on individuals but my opinion is little bit different. I think the high rate of university enrolment is oriented from the social mood of academic factionalism. Considering that there are lots of people pushed to enter university without any purpose and having no thoughts what they really want to do, we can figure out that getting simply high knowledge is the secondary consideration. Also, as you said that the reason why we want to enter the big company is because we can earn much money but we all know that entering the big company is not guaranteed and even getting a job is really difficult though we graduate the university. And sometimes I can see people who didn't graduated university get a job and earn much more money than I thought.
What I want to say is going to university is not that necessary if the person has the personal capability and the strong mind to do something.

    8. I think university degree will be the essential in the future when they apply for the position in the company. In University, we can learn about communication and social life. It is not only for the major but also for the student's social personality. when they are starting to work, it is not allowed to be failed. But in university, it is possible to fail when they do all of the things. That's why people have to go to University

      Delete
    9. I don't think we 'have to' go university. It's up to individual. But I think it is better to go university unless you know what you want to do in the future. Most students doesn't know what they want to do. In the university, students can experence various class so that they can find their aptitude.

Normally if you graduate University you can make more money than other people who didn't go to University. My major is German but you know what there are so many people who can't speak German but they are going to University. If you are not interested in Study maybe look for another things to do is better i think. Tuition is high and until graduation takes at least 2 years. Time is precious and we won't waste it. So i think 'going to University' is a option not 'have to'. -Jen-

    13. I don't think your reasons are supporting the opinion. Your first reason is because you can learn deeply about what you want as your major in a university, you have to go to a university. But it's saying about choice. Also it's not like that every university students like their major, and they study about their major because they like that major. Many of university students chose majors because those majors were best choice to go to better university with their 수능(something like SAT in Korea) score. There are lots of students who still don't know what they want to do through their life. Many people just long to go to universities which have higher reputation even they don't want that majors or even not knowing what they want to do, because they want to go in big companies like SAMSUNG (as you said in second reason), because they want to earn a lot of money, because making enormous money is big trend in Korea. In your writing, even your two reasons are opposite. And to continue, if your purpose is not earning lots on money, you don't have to go in big companies, also you don't have to go to a university. Furthermore, if you want to learn or long to have a job about what university don't teach, you better not to go to university and find a other place to learn that and a other place to provide you more experience. So still, it does depend on your choice to go to university not being under pressure or forced.

    14. Thank you for your opinion. I thougt about one side of the subject. I think that I will think several things about "why we go to University?" Thank you.

I think that we don't have to enter the university. I don't agree with your second reason. Actually, major premise condition of getting employed in large enterprises is still entering the university in Korea. As other classmates are saying, even if we graduate from a prestigious college, we can't be guaranteed to enter the big company. Not long ago, I read the article that is written like "Despite heavy spending in education, only half of all college graduates land jobs. ". It's so hard to find a job these days. Of course entering a good university will open the doors to success than any other ways. But, it just makes us have more possibility of getting a job in large enterprises. What is the point of spending all that money as college tuition if only half of all college graduates can get a job they want?

  11. I think one of the important things while we live our life is paying attention to not fell in mannerism. This is because as humans who are living one’s life, we need to live energetically with pleasure, and it makes your life full. In my opinion, what interrupt living like this is mannerism. I define mannerism as a forgetting a goal, not wanting big change and just staying current condition.
If you still want your goal and imagine yourself doing what you have been dreaming, but you are hesitating because your current life is fine and stable, and you feel annoying about challenging, don’t be satisfied with now, try and challenge. On the road to the goal, there will be many obstacles and you will need to work hard, and this must be the reason that you feel annoying about challenging. But in my opinion, isn’t it wasteful to be satisfied here and even not to try for what you have been dreaming? Also there is no infinite stability.
And here is one more thing. Do not fall in mannerism and always make a goal. It can be very small thing and very daily thing. Even the thinking that you will have delicious Chinese food as a lunch can be your goal, and decision that you will live very serene and peaceful life can be goal too. It’s totally different to live in knowing what you want and to live with not even trying to think about what you want, because when you think about this and try for the goal, the process will make you feel aliveness and pleasure.
I’m not saying to be greedy but to plan a goal and to live in trying and concerning. Just staying where you are now which is falling in mannerism won’t give you anything through the life but can give you regret. Setting a goal and the processes you try hard to get close to the goal will give you satisfaction that can’t be compared with anything, and you will be full of pleasure.
I started to think about this because I just feel like I’m in mannerism now. We are young, and we have time. We should try something. I want my mind to be full of feeling of aliveness and shine.

(P.S. I know this writing is little bit long. Sorry for that. But please tell me if you have any good idea for getting out of mannerism.)

    1. I think one of the reasons why people lose passion for their dream and fall into the mannerism is because they set too much things from the beginning. It's because a plan which lacks of possibility to be achieved in short time can give you another failure and make you fall in the mannerism again.
I think one big wish can be achieved when small achievements gather. As you said, the plan doesn't always need to be related to studying or working. Something that can give you a small happiness will make your life change. If you set small goals everyday and try accomplish those plans, that achievements will give you a big pleasure and motivate you to stay passionate for your dream.

    2. As I read your main post, I felt pity for you and everyone who is struggling with mannerism including myself. I think Many Koreans are in an environment that is good for mannerism to grow. As youngsters, we all go to academies and prepare for university. After entering university there are stresses for getting employed, getting married, having babies, making those kids go to school and so on. I was once also in mannerism but now I try not to think about the life everyone expects. I think the fun goes all away if you start to expect too much about the future. And I think even if we are old, it doesn't matter, but only how we think about life is important. Try to think life as a gentle board game and relax. Sometimes there are fun parts, sometimes love, sometimes pain, but it's all fun. :)

    3. I totally agree with you. I’m sure that I like to live challengeable more than in mannerism. For example, When you go abroad or build a small company, I think that you can’t do these things with challenge. And then, I think you can feel more fun when you do these things. So, I totally agree with you.

Recently I try to lose my weight. It was very hard but I try for my own 'goal'. I also agree with you. If human didn't have their own goal it is more easy to feel mannerism. Of course it is hard to make a goal for something and try to be closer to the goal is very hard job. But anyway we are still young and there are many chances for us. So don't be disapponinted and just watch your goal. It can your lighthouse and it will show the way how to get out of mannerism.

It can help people stay focus on the work and keep moving to acccomplish the goal. Second practing makes perfect.I believe practing is the best way to approach the goal. I like the phrase that 진유 wrote, 'One big wish can be achieved when small achievements gather.' It can make people live happier if we try to find at least one little thing we done, everyday. And I really thank 지나 for comforting me! Yes.. I think Korea is too hard to live with smile always. But of course it will be much better if I change my way of thinking, right?
I really long to listen to that we are still young and there are many chances. I'm so happy finding this phrase here!

@안성우(Andrew). Can you give me some example of practicing to achieve a goal..? You know, a goal can be like something we cannot practice such as getting a good grade on a exam, or a goal can be placed in a future so I can practice (and I'm only be able to think about those things). If it is not complex or troublesome to find some example, it will be grate if you give me some example! :)

    7. Like what you said in the content, I also think that always making a small goal to achieve daily is a good way for us to overcome mannerism, but in my opinion, the reason why people falling in mannerism is related to our envionment as well. Only the ones with no dreams fall in mannerism? I don't think so. I would fall in mannerism and find it very hard to overcome it if I devoted my whole time and energy to achieve my dream but fail due to my environment such as my economic conditions or else. I agree with Jina's comment, saying that Korean society is the environment which the mannerism is more easy to grow.

I think G.E make our life more convenient. For example, Cows can be engineered to produce more milk for the same size.
There are many benefits of G.E G.E will make our world more productive.
Especially Genetic Modified Food(GMO) is that it will feed the poor countries people.
We will be willing to invest G.E I think poverty is a serious problem to solve in the world.
And GE can be a effective solution. If we use G.E, we can produce a huge amount of GMO food
These kinds of GMO food are also beneficial to our human body, I think It would be a great way to save human kind and create a excellent live things.

  15. Last year(2014), more than eighteen thousands Korean gave up their Korean nationality. It was first time in six years that number of people giving up their Korean nationality surpass people apply to get Korean nationality. This is a remarkable trend because no other countries in the world has this much people giving up nationality. Many Korean people wants to give up their nationality and immigrate to other advanced countries. Even people graduated prestigious university and have a good job prepare to leave Korea. My family and friends live Korea too, If i live other country, it is very hard to meet them. So i want to live in Korea. But i also want to see the world and make new friends who live other country and have other culture experience. So i can't decide now.

The one thing that i concern is we should not forget about the original food. GMO food will dominate the food market and original foods become disappeared. To preserve the orignal is as important as to develop GMO food.

Actually news and articles show data of most muslims support IS. There is widespread feeling among people that muslim=terrorist perception without any certain fact on research.
I saw youtube video named "soldier defends muslim worker"
A young man say to cashier "I don't want you to touch my sandwich. Just go home and make bomb.". Just because cashier is a muslim. Then US army who come to a customer say to young man "You have choice to shop anywhere you want just like he has choice to practice his religion. That's why I'm wearing this uniform. For anyone live free in this country."
I was impressive when I saw this video. I know we should not treat people base on race or religion. But incidents related to islam happens continually these times. Terror in Paris was horrible incident that anyone can't deny. If I watch the news about many muslim immigrants come to Korea, I might feel unsafe. It's true the terror happened where take the most number of muslim immigrants in europe. What's your image of muslim? Can you support if Korea make a policy about taking large number of muslims?

  17. Studies of humanities have always been regarded as a very basic but an important factor in our societies. It is deeply related to every single details of human beings, including their thoughts and the way how their cultures have been formed. Humanities is also carrying out a significant role of being the 'root' for the other studies such as social studies because every social phenomenons can be explained based on the studying and researches about human beings.
Due to these kind of reasons, we could say that studying of humanities must not be neglected for many years to come. However, some of the universities in Korea are showing the act of abolishing or integrating several majors that are related to humanities insisting that they are not really useful for the actual employment rate of their students. In other words, these universities are only seeking the effectiveness through studies.
I think that behavior toward humanities is like abandoning the duty that has to be conducted by an organization called 'university'. The tendency of choosing majors which is more suitable for getting a job should be reconsidered and the schools also have to make efforts on encouraging their students to recognize the importance of humanities.

    1. I totally agree with your opinion and felt shame when I heard that news. University is a place to learn more about human and studies related to it. It isn't just a place for employment training. However all universities are being marked by the government regularly, and the criteria of marking is hugely focused on employment among graduates. I think the government should change the marking criteria as soon as possible, and also include humanistic education in elementary to high school to encourage students to study humanism since they were young.

      Delete
    2. It is regrettable that studies of humanities have been neglected by Society. I believe, we did not have enough time to think and learn deeply about humanities such as philosophy, literature, Psychology ...etc before entering University. Among 4 years of studying in university is our only and last chance to learn and think about it. So, i hope there are more interest, care and support from government.

    3. I'm so sad that university have been changed to just one of steps for getting a job. I really hate Korean education system. A purpose of existence of high school became going to university which have a higher reputation, and a purpose of university became forcing students to get a "good job" at big company and making more and more students to get a job. I applied to university to study about a field I had been curious which is textile engineering. But the school wants me to take a course such as writing a good resume and what I should prepare for getting a job. I'm not saying those classes never help me, but it seems like regardless of how professors teach major classes well and deeply as much as students would be satisfied we, the school only interested in letting students get a job.
I want to discuss freely about topics like humanities, our life, problems of our society and solutions. And as I'm going close to middle of the twenties, many thoughts and concern are rising in my head. I'm having questions like 'Am I doing well?', 'What should I do for my parents and family?', and also I have thought about my relationship with others(each friend, classmates, teachers, other adults ...etc). Even sometimes, I'm afraid of living or getting older. I think many other people in my ages have similar worries, and I'm sure study of humanity can give us solutions or at least help us open a door for finding solutions.
I hope university make a class which students can share our thoughts and discuss about that regardless of grades. As university students, we should think about those topics for ourselves to live meaningful life as feeling that and for our society.

      Delete
    4. (Alicia) University should be a place for studying what students want to be thought or what students have to be thought. It is so sad that major is evaluated by employment rate. I feel shame when I considered classes standard of which class give score easily. I had to consider what I should be thought first to be well equipped to study in university.

  19. Compare to the subway, the bus has some demerits such as irregular intervals and fewer amount of seats. However, unless my time is running out for the schedule, I prefer to take a bus rather than the subway. It is because ‘To have my seat’ is so uncomfortable for me on the subway.
When I’m sitting on the subway and someone stands in front of me, regardless of the age of that person, I feel like I should stop sitting there and give him my seat. My 'Subway seat trauma' is made after experiencing several awkward situations. For example, last summer I was having a short nap on the subway after the part time labour. When I opened my eyes, one woman who seemed to be in late fifties was staring at me with irritated face.
Of course I take it for granted that I should give my seat to elderly and kids. However, the process of checking the age of the person who is standing near me and making a decision to stand up or not makes me avoid to take the subway.
On one hand, some people think because young people pay the same amount with others, they have no reason to give their seats to others.
As young people, should we give up our rights to take some rest on the subway? What kind of public transit do you prefer and why? What do you think about my story?

    1. I always take subway when I go to school or work place. When I see older adults I usually say "Please, take my seat." because I know that it is natural in Korea to offers seats to the elders and we are educated in that way. But sometimes I see elders who think they have the right to occupy the seat whenever they want. Tapping young people on the foot or saying "These days people don't have manners" pretending to talk to themselves, the elders get their seat ignoring what other people feel. These bad experiences make false sense on the elders to me. I think that the elders should behave in the way they want to be treated.

In my case, I prefer to take a subway than a bus because of regular interval time and high speed. whenever I went to somewhere by the bus, I couldn't arrive on time for many reasons such as irregular interval time schedule, traffic congestion and discomfortable feeling of riding(Sometimes the bus makes a sudden stop.).
I agree with your opinion. In the subway, we are usually hard to have our seat, Korean culture which makes the young yield their seats to elderly people always give us intense feeling in the sub
way. However I think we should accept this culture like respect toward the elderly. These days, the young isn't willing to yield their seats to elderly people. They are either completely ignorant of it or pretend they are asleep. It is common decency to give their seat to anyone in greater need. But I agree with 정다희 reply's comment. It is essential that the elders should behave in the way they want to be treated.

And about give one's seat to elderlt people, i hope they do not feel it is yonger's obligation. I know they are the old and the infirm and Korea has kind of culture thing respecting elderly. But there are designated seats for the elderly and tapping and saying bad word toward young who do not give way their seat are not mature behavior.

When you watch the movie which part do you most consider?
Personally, I think, it is better to watch movies that are primarily designed to amuse or entertain than to watch serious movies that make you think. Some said, people must only watch films with content to learn life-lesson because films without any educational content often make people feel empty and stupefied afterwards. However, although a movie may lack serious content, it is worth watching. Watching entertaining movies enables people to take a break film the real world, lowering their stress level. Although educational movies might alleviate stress when providing some solutions to real life, the serious content itself can stress people out. This is because such real content is what people suffer from in the world. Thus, it is better to watch lightweight films that are not related to real life issues for rejuvenation. In addition, regardless of the content, going to the movies creates a comfortable atmosphere in which people can bond and have a good time with loved ones. It is common that people go see movies with friends or family members and share it afterwards. People are connected through such intimate activity, and this kind of experience can improve life quality irrespective of the content. After all, people want a good laughter that can take them away from the reality for a little while, and comedies definitely do it.

Last weekend, I went to the movie theater again but I chose a Korean movie which seemed to have a bright atmosphere. 3. I totally agree with you! But I think it is different as your purpose to watch movie to say watching entertaining movies is better than watching serious ones. If you want to get a educational information and want to know about other people's view, watching serious movie will be better. Anyway, in my case, my purpose to watch a movie is getting comfort. I don't want to feel sad or depressed from real serious and brutality and sad situations all over the world. I'm tired enough of situations around me such as series of quizzes and exam which never give me a little moment of rest and relationships between people and thinking about my future. I don't want to put more concerns into my brain and feel sad and get more stress. So I usually watch romantic comedy movie or entertaining movie, and I even don't watch movie about parents and their kids or scary movie or movie that talk about our current problems. Those movies I said later make me cry out of touching or make me stressed out of being in fear or feeling sorry and bad because of knowing severe problems in our society. Accordingly, no one can say lightweight films have low qualities, or there is nothing to get from the light movies. Maybe it can be true to say lightweight films are better for stressed out citizens living now days than any other movies which have serious topics.

  22. Artificial intelligence was a huge trend in IT business in 1990s. It has been on the downtrend since then but lately, with new technologies like big data and machine learning, A.I has become one of the most important technologies for the future again.
There’s always been a big controversy about pros and cons of A.I. Some people expect that A.I technology can make great improvement in human life. We already use A.I such as Siri in iphone in our daily routine to assist our work.
There are different opinions about A.I technology. Mostly, it’s about fear. In movie ‘Ex Machina’, A.I robot lied to human to save itself. It only uses human as a tool. We really don’t know what these high-tech machines can do to us. It may help us in many ways but it also can destroy us.
I think A.I is a high risk, high return technology. I am aware of its side effects. Some dangerous result might happen if there’s a tiny mistake. But at the same time, I just want to see what this technology can bring to this world.

South Korea has a relatively high suicide rate among developed nations, although the rate has been continuously declining in recent years due to proactive prevention efforts by both public and private organizations. In 2014, there were 27.3 suicides per 100,000 people, a 4.1% decline from the previous year.
Within South Korea, the suicide rate varies by age, gender, and geographic regions. Recently. the suicide rate among teenagers is rapidly increasing. What is the problem with it? I think it can be caused by Korean education culture. In Korea, every student is obligated to take the College Scholastic Ability Test in order to be eligible to apply to college. Because majority of parents strive their children to enter the top institutions. The national obsession that revolves around higher education is focused on getting a near perfect score on the CSAT, along with having top grades in school. In other words, the pressure to do well on this exam is stringent on both parents and student. With the social pressure to do well on the tests, students choose the option of suicide as an escape.
Also I read that Korea experiences a surge of suicides after deaths of celebrities through an article. The degree of media coverage of celebrity suicides impacts the degree of increase of suicide rates. It was written that "The three celebrity suicides that received wide media coverage led to a surge in suicide rates, and the other celebrity suicides with low media coverage did not lead to an increase in suicide rate." In that case, celebrity suicides lead people to use the same methods to commit suicide.
So, the real challenge is how to provide a solution to prevent suicide. More needs to be done than just establishing suicide prevention centers and passing new legislations.

Fundamental problems exist in Korea seem to increase suicide rate, and if those problems are not solved, suicide rate would keep increasing. Living in Korea is not happy at all because of too much pressure for everything, and many people want to leave Korean and live better life abroad.

    2. We really have to change the educational system. The society made students stuck in this pointless, overheated, expensive competition. Students spend almost 10 years just to get good grades in exam. They don’t learn about what it’s really like living in a real world or what they really want to do. Years of competition make them depressed even after they graduated.

    3. Suicide is the controversial issue . we can focus it as individual or sociable. These days, many people are isolated. They communicate with people through online like SNS, but it can't be the real. Person's nature is familiar with touching. Face to Face, playing sports like these activities can be the solution to suicide issue. Suicide appear when they have nobody to talk their problems. We don't want to show our weakness so we just hide. Suicide rate will become higher than before. Unfortunately, i think there is no solution.

It is always uncomfortable to see some news about suicide. Many people always hope suicide rate will decrease but it didn't happen. But actully there is no great solution for it. It is matter of individuals mind it is hard to control by someone. Maybe that is the real reason why it is hard to prevent suicide. I just pray for it.

I think Korean student who want to do suicide are suffering from depression. As they go to the highschool, they have less time to enjoy leisure time. They need to have a time to release stress. I think school has to make a program to find their healty way to release stress. For example, ‘Kniting time’, ‘Badminton time’of anything helps stutent feel better.

  24. Few months ago, a 9-year-old boy threw a brick from the top of an apartment building, and killed a woman who was feeding stray cats. The boy insists he was doing a gravity experiment, but there are many clear evidences that he actually 'targeted' the woman, and he did this on purpose. What shocks me is that even though he committed a murder, he cannot be punished just because he is too little. I absolutely do agree that children should be protected from being a target of a crime, but they also should learn that responsibility follows when they are the ones who committed a crime. I’m not saying children criminals should be punished just like adult criminals. But they should be punished in some way, so they can realize that they actually did something wrong, and learn from it. An innocent person died, and no one is taking responsibility for this. I feel sorry for the woman’s family, and hope Korean laws related to children crimes to be changed.

I’m totally with you. Furthermore, I think the children’s parents have responsibility for that. The children were young, but they know they did something wrong. Of course parents knew what their children have done, but they didn’t report that to the police. Moreover, they didn’t say sorry to the innocent victim until it caused controversy. So I think their parents have responsibility for that, too.

    2. I actually studied this topic in other class. In Korea, children under age of 14 cannot be punished by criminal law. They have to be responsible for what they have done but we can’t treat them just like adult because strict punishment by law could make a labeling effect on them. I think we have to tighten up the reformation and discipline system to make them realize what they did and prevent future crime.

    3. (Alicia) Recently we can see the news about crime occurred by children often. Personally basic educations like 'how to cherish the life', 'how to do not harm other people', 'how to be a human being' should be increased. Education for taking high score is the second coming problem.

  25. Because of the electronic revolution cell phones are everywhere. Phones are a major concern for many parents. but I think children should have phones. First, cell phones help keep children safe. Nowadays the crimes are pervasive and especially 'children sexual violence' is getting serious. According to research victim of children sexual violence 2008 to 2012 under 11 years old were 6130 people. This means three children are attacked everyday single day!! With cell phones children can easily contact their parents if something happens or they are get in trouble. Mobile companies have family safety services. For example, Verizon service and phone has a ‘Child Zone Service’. parents can receive when the children’s phone moves. Second, Your child won’t be bullied at school for not having a phone. I read an article about children who bullied at school because he doesn't having a phone. Children are affected by their peer a lot. One of the statistic showed that almost 75% of children have their own cell phone. If they don't have phone it is hard to contact with their friends and hang out. Besides they are going to feel lonely and depress. Eventually a children will be an outcast. Also this kind of situation can affect their personality and character badly. Whether you like it or not, children can be mean and judgmental to your child. So I totally agree with ‘children should have cell phones’.

    4. I understand that cell phone can be a good alternative to secure children and to build their own society. But I think there should be the real regulation system to limit the using time. I have a sister who is twelve and my family gave her cell phone when she was nine. At that time we expected her to just use it for contact. But now, she always touches it. There are too many things she have to engage(window themes, kakaotalk checks, checking kakaostory comments, keeping game rankings, etc.) and she even watches movies or dramas through it. She seems like living in the window of the phone but she doesn't even know how much time she uses playing with that machine. This is not only my sister's story but also most of the students' story as we know. There is a app to check the using time and limit and I know schools recommend the parents and students to install the app but it isn't working totally. For them, cell phone works just as narcotic.

    6. I've disliked the young(children) having their own cell phones. This is because, in my opinion, cell phones would block children from making precious memories with their friends in men to men condition, spending time with their families, feeling nature and playing in nature. Children would be so busy looking phones if phones were on their hands. But like Jenny said, these days, children need their phones. Even if I hate this fact, it is true that they need it. Just like what Jenny said in her writing, because many other children have their own phones and they communicate a lot with phones using apps such as 'Kakao Talk', few children who don't have cell phones can't talk with friends as much as others sharing their stories through KaTalk and they(children without own phones) will feel lonely and depress. And this will affect the children negatively because they are not completely grown in mentally. Though if we don't think about other factors, this can be a big reason for that children need to have their cell phones.

Do you think ‘Flying car’ will be our daily life?

People had been dreaming of flying. The Wright brothers made that dream comes true. Thanks to them, we're taking airplain to travel another world. But peolple wants more daily-flying-transfortation. For example, when we have chance to draw about future, we always think about flying car. Nowadays, technology has been developed so far. It seems to be flying car will be made soon. But even if it would be come true, can we use it in our daily life? I think there are so many problems of it.
First, technology problem. flying car needs traffic lights, road sign. It is easy to make moving object to fly. But traffic lights and road sign needs to be stopped in the air. It is much harder to make it.
Second, if flying car going to be popular, we can’t see the sky. I don’t think people give up to see clear sky due to the flying car. So even if it comes true, I think we can’t use it our daily life.

You should choose wake up time and you will decide the menu for breakfast. After that you should choice the clothes for today, and think about way to go to school and lunch menu…… Anyway always decision-makings are waiting for your life.
There is one famous small decision making about Chinese food named ‘탕수육(fried pork)’ and it’s sauce. It called problem of ‘부먹(pour the sauce)’ and ‘찍먹(dipping the sauce’). Actually it is just small problem of private taste. Maybe some people like soft fried pork and nice taste of harmony of fried pork and permeated sauce. And others prefer crunch taste of fried pork and just little dipping sauce for fried pork. It looks very small problem and it’s true. But anyway small things can be big things isn’t it?
One famous Chinese food master says “Right way to eat ‘탕수육’ is fried it together.” But actually it can’t be solution for it. Many Chinese restaurant didn’t do that and also it is just problem of private taste. There is no right answer but what is your choice? ‘부먹’ or ‘찍먹’?

    1. I don't care about '부먹' and '찍먹' when i am eating '탕수육' cause it still taste good:) but if i go to Chinese Restaurant with my friends we usually take some 탕수육 to little bowl for who like '부먹' or '찍먹'. That way we can satisfy both!! Besides i totally agree that Life is a continuation of decision-making. Life is so complicated:/ -Jen-

    2. I'm the person who don't care about 부먹, 찍먹. I usally respect and follow opinion of a person I eat with.
Same as 은별, we should consider outher people while we are eating. When we pour all the sauce on the 탕수육 bowl, person who like 찍먹 would be very sad.. Let's have a manner to do half 부먹 and half 찍먹!

  30. What are you addicted to?
A movie called "Shame" is about a man named Brandon who lives in New york as a successful yuppie suffering from sex addiction. His day starts with pornographies and ends with temporary enjoyment with a prostitute.
In fancy and heavy New york city, the man refuses to fill the weight and responsibility of life, and costantly indulges in lightness and temporary pleasure to fill his emptiness. Ironically, the more pleasure he gets, the heavier his life becomes.
Most people living in modern city like Brandon suffer from "Addiction" as Smartphone, cigarette, acoholism, drug addiction, and even addiction of lying called "Ripley syndrome" etc.
Some of "US" are absorbed in extreme nihilism. This extreme nihilism comes from extreme deficiency of true relationship or proper solution for mental pressure and loneliness.
A lack of genuine settlement results in one person looking for temporary and light solution to fill emptiness such as smartphones, cigarettes, drugs, and constant lying contrasts to reality.
Addiction is prevalent to most people living in heavy big city. True relationship with face-to-face without any artificial conditions can be fundamental solution for filling deficiency. The more truthful and heavier, the less superficial and more balanced relationship becomes.

  34. Do you like watching films? What kind of films do you like? I usually watch any kind of films but especially I like the mystery films and crime films. But sometimes I feel so scared about a realistic possibility of the copycat crimes. When I watch these movies, I often think "Aren't they too detail?" The crime processes one by one are well-founded and they show the acts such as how they steal or counterfeit money and how they kill others and anything else in detail. With this reason that they are too easy to study, those movies have the possiblity that they can be a motive scenario for potential criminals.
Because the detailed description is the important elements in the movie to receive recognition, it seems like the movie makers and director are not concerning much about the regulation on the reality degree. But considering the copycat crime examples and the tries happening in reality in the world, there should be a filtering equipment that can make gaps between the real situation and the screen. Just having age regulation expecting that the adults would have sufficient judgement ability doesn't work because there are lots of copycat crimes caused by adults. The movies have to stop showing all the details which have a possibility to work as a crime guideline.

    1. (Alicia) Ghost movie is less scary than thriller movie based on actual crime. I can't understand why actual crime thriller movies that shows terrible crime situaltions are so popular. I saw article about criminal who serve one´s term of imprisonment write book based on one's crime and that book become one of bestseller. Now I curious the psychological reason to watch that kind of movie or read that kind of book.

    2. Well I do worry about the copycat crime, but too strict regulation can infringe the freedom of art.
Movie is a sincere work of director, scenario writer and otehr staff who work in movie industry.
We have to protect their right to express there thoughts through a movie.

  35. Did you see the video of pretty Austrailian girl? She cried in the vedio and confessed her fake life in SNS.
She said that, she wanted other people to envy her and follow her. So she fixed her body shape and face look better.
Her room and her daily life like what she eat, where she go was all processed. It wasn't her life at all.
She gained the sympathy of other people and some people encourage her braveness. On the other side, people blame for her ironic mathod to express her opinion. Because.. the place she confessed her feeling is nothing but her SNS.
Alex Ferguson said that people are wasting there life because of SNS. I agree with his opinion in some parts.
The reason is that everyone wants to show the happiest and exciting moments. There is no reason to upload miserable and depressed part of their life. However other people who watch these things often compare their life with other people and feel comparative depriviation.
Do you using social network service? What do you think about this phenomenon?
What can be a wise method of using SNS?

    1. (Karl) I also use SNS such as Facebook or Instagram things. I think that is big issue too. Anyway manypeople says 'facebook is just happy book. Every people wants to show just happy things.' I totally agree with them. I think seperate real life and SNS is not that good choice. But that service is to well opened to everyone. Every people can see what I do and what's my think. Maybe that makes people seperate their real life and SNS. I think we always need some balance of that problem.

I think SNS itself is not a problem. Even before SNS appeared, there were many people who faked their appearance or life on online sites. People who have hard time getting along with others in their real life did that, and now they are doing it through SNSs. People who want that meaningless popularity are the problem.

    3. I agree with 현국. Balance is a keypoint to make SNS helpful.
Because we can contact with our friends even thouh they live other sied of the earth.
      We should use it wisely.

    4. Agnes's point is very fresh to me.
Yes maybe the people who can't control themselves are real problem.
But I still think we can't ignore the trend.. or phenomenon of SNS wide spred in modern society.

    5. I used to be really like facebook but not anymore.Nowadays i can easily see so many weird, sexual things. Besides there are story and articles that which is unconfirmed informations. Whih those reasons i barely use facebook. I read a article and it showed that people compare their life to other people when they see upload pictures on other people's SNS. Those kind of things can cause jealousy and thinking negatively about their life. For example, my friend's life is so amazing but my life isn't good. I kind of feel sorry for pretty Austrailian girl who is doing fake things on SNS to show her off. She should know that her life is presious and worth it. And compare to other people is always not good!! If you have a time please upload the video i would love to see and think about one more time. -Jen-
